Awhile back there was a thread about old guys buying their first AR. Well, I just bought my first AR and applied for Medicare during the same month!!:o

During my old Navy days the rifles in the weapons locker were M1s and BARs so I never had any experience with the M16.

Dtech lives just up the road from me and he was kind enough to order this Oly k16 for me. I picked it up yesterday and today after prepping it and doing a barrel break-in routine I had the urge to fire a couple of groups even though the wind was really howling. Managed a three shot 1/2" and a five shot 1" group (with four of the shots in 3/4").

Needless to say I am well pleased with it and am anxiously waiting for the first wood chuck to pop out in the north forty.:D

The scope is a discontinued model Simmons 4.5x14 that I bought in Wally World a few years back. They were clearing them out for cheap $$. Mounts are some Leopold High See Throughs. They were the only mounts I had on hand that put the scope high enough. I plan on getting some tactical high mounts in the future. I had Dtech put a sling swivel stud on the handguard and I have a 6-9" bipod that works well on the gun.

It's 16". Just finished trying aother group in better conditions and with more time. Five shots went in .644" with four of them in .342". What a shooter right out of the box.!!
