Saw this site on another BB and I must say I'm interested. Surplus ones are banned in Jersey but if this works for Cali it should fly in my state.
Anyone have one yet or seen one?auto-ordnance.com Had some trouble with the link, click on long guns then M1 Carbine.

I know they have been discussed in a different thread somewhere here. I couldn't find the thread though.
They are made by Khar arms and look beautyful in person. Very mil-spec. I never thought I would ever shoot a M1 carb that actually needed to be broken in! But the one I shot did. It shot well but did not like 30 round GI mags (the same mags worked fine in my WWII spec Gerber M1 carbine) but the 15 rounders worked perfect.
It is CA legal (one of the few...) and of good quality. Hey, its a Khar arms. They make all kinds of cool stuff.

That would work for me in Jersey then, 30 rounders are only a dream.

aadje, I'm interested because the surplus carbine is considered an assault rifle in my Democratic party run state. Since this is new and does not have the bayonet lug and is Cali legal I may finally be able go get one although its not a real one, its the next best thing. One of the first rifles I ever fired was an M1 carbine and I've always liked it.
TC
these carabins gone to the police and customs after the war then they sold them to the gunshops
now there used by our sport shooters
there are much matches for the m1 here and in belgium and germany

So I can take that as a glowing recomendation. Well I may put that on my list before the Beretta Storm. Now I have to raise the money again. I had it in my hands and had to use it to pay bills. I will check to see if they can be had in Jersey. I sure hope so. Fivepoints did it come like that or did you do some mods?

They have been making these for quite a while, and from what I have been hearing, they have alot of the early kinks worked out. At a gun show last month I saw a few original M1s for about $375 each. I am holding out for an International Harvester M1. Though, I'm afraid if I saw one it would push my other gun buys even further back. Noooo!
Article in this month’s American rifleman on them. They liked it

Well I stopped by my favorite gun shop today and got the bad news, they are still banned in the Democratic Peoples Republic Of New Jersey. I guess I'll get a Beretta Storm instead.

Well, the weird part is that I can get all of the M1 carbines I want but can't get the storm! I want one too. Nice carbine to have if you carry a 96 or 92 handgun (mags interchangeable).
Since it has a pistol grip and is a rifle it is verboten here in CA.

Now that is odd, The M1 Carbine is listed as an assault weapon by name in NJ 3which is probably why its banned. May be if they gave it another name it would have been OK. I believe by our rules thumb-hole type stocks don't count as pistol grips. Gun laws made by people who have no knowledge of guns just F***ing wonderful.

Just read the reviews in the june Shooting Times & july Guns & Weapons and it stirred up my interest again. In the mid 60's I used to use one for goat culling on a lot of properties due to its hi-cap mags and it more than did the job on mobs of goats with soft nose (no Mini's or AK/SKS or M16's available to the public in them days)
I do have a WW11 one in my collection, haven't checked the manufacture and haven't fired it yet but I would like a new one to have fun with rather than my WW11 one, how good is the Iver Johnson compaired with the Ordnance one? anybody know?
I did enjoy my M1 carbine and used it for many years, it makes a good lightweight (5.5 lbs) killer and much better than say a 9mm PC9 or Bretta Storm, something all the family could use (maybe even in a SHTF situation)

Just re-read the june Shooting Times and they said that Auto-Ordnance are makeing a "California" version of the carbine to comply with that states gun ownership restrictions, so nows your chance you Kalifornia carbine lovers.

I just bought an M1 Carbine from a Police Warehouse. It was made in the 1960's by one of the companies that made it during WWII and kept on after the war, making them for police departments.
I figured it would be rough looking since my brother bought one from a police department near Kansas City about 5 years ago. However, mine looked great. Here is a picture, if I can figure out how to upload the picture.

AO/Kahr Arms makes fine guns. I've never owned one of their M1 carbine repros, but I've owned 2/ AO Kahr Thompson(Tommy Guns) 45 acp submachinegun repros. Both are SOLID well made, dependable, good looking weapons. I currently own a Plainfield M1 carbine with underfolder stock and a GI stock, but if I ever sold it,I'd definitely try an AO M1 Carbine with complete confidence.

I got the M1 Carbine for $325. They had three, but sold out quickly. As of Tuesday, they still had three with the scopes, but with the rear sight removed for $495.

I was not at all so fortunate with a brand-new one last fall, but it was probably just a very rare fluke.
