Hey All:

I posted this in another place and it was suggested I put it here. I put this here knowing full well that there could be a little bias here.

Can anybody tell me a little about G-3 clones, specifically the Vector? I am going back and forth between a G-3 and a FAL carbine. I have owned a full length FAL and I loved it but it was too long and heavy for my preference. The FAL carbine is lighter but it is still heavy. I like the feel of the Vector G-3 clone but I don't know anything about them. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

FireMaster

I've no experience with the Vector 93 clone, a buddy owns a CAI 93 clone that works well. A lot of this is subjective but I have to say that for me there is no comparison, a prefer the FAL, better fit, better ergonomics, better sights. Try to shoot a 93 clone extensively before you buy. You might realize as I did that you like the FAL better.

I don't have a lot of good things to say about the Vector series. Most of my experience comes from their MP5 knock-offs though. If they are an indication of their level of excelence (or lack there of) I'd stay away. Most Vectors require some TLC to feed, extract (repeat) properly.
I do like my FAL though. Ever looked for a shorter barrel version say 18 inches? You might like it better for feel. It really does change the center of ballance of the gun.

I have read on a lot of different forums that the PTR91 rifles are very well made im thinking of buying one my self.

PTR-91 is a great rifle. I bought one last year and love it, if you scroll down a bit you can see my thread and look in the gallery for some pictures.

i don't have any personal experience with the fal, but have owned H&Ks and a clone (sar 8) for 20+ years. i agree about the jdl\ptr rifles, they are nice! one thing about the H&Ks are mags are dirt cheap right now, and parts are readily available. the H&Ks are extremely accurate and reliable\durable rifles.i was considering a fal and was talking to a gun smith about it. he told me there were several smiths that were trying to work a glitch out of fals, that being the first shot hits different then all the following shots. don't know how true that is, but since i knew H&Ks from experience, i stayed with them. still want a fal some day though, they are nice guns. if you get the chance, you may want to check out a springfield sar-8, they have a cast aluminum reciever with a rail machined into it, a nice feature! any of you fal guys experience that first shot difference? fals are fine rifles, i'm NOT putting them down in any way, i hope to build one soon!

Does the FAL hold the bolt on the last shot? Most PTR clones do not. I really don't know what HK's justification for that is. I find that action particularly hard to charge. As far as I know, only the 10mm and .40 MP5s will hold the bolt. Check with Atlantic Arms in MD for info as they seem to always have a ton of Vektors. You may also want to talk to Arizona Response Systems about the relative merits of the two guns since he seems to work with both a lot. I don't know anything personally about FALs other than that people who do know tend to prefer them.

I'll place my vote for Hk-91.

If you ever get lucky enough to buy a HK machine gun seat you already have a sweet host weapon.

I love my G-3 sear gun.

I prefer the FAL myself.

I did own a Springfield SAR8 as mentioned, sold it as soon as possible, several failure to feed/extract issues no matter what ammo I used. It was also a B***H to operate the charging handle. At the time there was not much of an after market either. May have just been my sample, but that was my $.02.

FAL's on the other hand I love, carried one in the desert for awhile too, always went bang and never gave me a problem. Also seems to be alot more available in the aftermarket at more affordable prices than the G3 stuff.

My vote is for a quality FN-FAL. Both are great guns but I like the fact that the FN's gas is changed for your load.

I have had both the Hk91 and the Fal. My preference is the Fal. Remember what the guy said in "the Thirteenth Warrior" when the Arab complained that the sword they gave him was too heavy. The Viking said simply, "Grow Stronger"!!
