View Full Version : Which 22lr to get?
Looking for a .22 LR for my son, it's his first gun and he seems to want a bolt action that's clip fed. Will probably put a scope on it as well. I want to keep it in the under $250 range or so.
There's quite a few models out there and I'm really not very familiar with them all..........Thanks !
Here are a couple of good choices that will fit your budget. Probably closer to 200 bucks for either one of these.

You could also get a 22 mag clip fed bolt action from Marlin for about 240 to 250 bucks. I'm sure there are others as well.
Savage has the mark II in your price range http://www.savagearms.com/markiif.htm
:Edited to add: I just noticed that it even has an Accu-trigger for pete sake... lol Z

What he said.....I have one of these. Best shootin 22LR I have ever had.
You can hardly go wrong with either the Marlin or Savage bolt-action .22's. Both are reliable, rugged and accurate.

Hi
I just got my CDNN catalog in today and they have some Rossis for sale for 69 bucks.
Gonna have to go through an FFL of course but its still seems like a good deal

I like Marlin. Never had a problem.

I'm a Ruger fan personally, but that savage looks awfully tempting..... Is there much of an after market for those????
77-22 would be my choice......But that savage is awfully tempting......
The 77-22 would be my choice as well but I don't think he will have much luck finding one for 250 or less. That is why I tried to give him the Marlin info.

Hello jbgood..
I'll echo in on the Marlins we have several (semi's.) However I picked up a military surplus Romainian (trainer) 22lr bolt action mag fed (6) rifle for $89.00. Very accurate, has a scope rail plus it was a stock refinishing project for my son.
All the Best

The main reason I went with this Savage " http://www.savagearms.com/markiif.htm "over all the rest out there. This one has a built in Weaver mount. All the rest take that crap of a grove on the recever system. Not the best way for mounting a 3x0x40 scope on. This one is rock steady.
