Just like the new S&W......Another, to high of a price AR type rifle. The market is full of them. I would like to see something new, in a better round.

Umm...this is a gas-piston operated 5.56 rifle that uses AR mags.
It doesn't have the poop where it eats operation system.
Personaly, I'm glad to have something else to chose from in 5.56 besides either an AR, Mini, or .223 AK.

Gas pistol upper AR-15 with H&K style charging handle and real battle sights!! SOunds like an AR-15 platform design I could get behind. To bad we'll never see them in California.
But I think I would get confused with the reversed direction for the safety (unless that is a photo error).

If you want somthing like this. Why not go with one that has been out for awhile and is proven.

It has its own style charging handle, not an H&K. H&K's charge on the front left side of the barrel. I agree with the saftey lever though, thats the only thing that I dont like about the design.
don't mean to hi-jack the thread.....
if you are just looking for a 223 semi other than a AR, AK or mini, there is still this little thing called Daewoo DR200..... 223, Gas piston driven, 4 position adjustable gas, uses AR mags.
And it can be converted into a folding (not a tele!) stock, which make it at least 6" shorter than their AR counter part. expect to pay About $850 for a converted DR.
twist is only 1-12 though, no fast twist.

From what the SIG reps at the SHOT show have said, the SIG 550 front grip will interchange with the SIG 556, and they are working on an adaptor that will allow the end user to use the original SIG 550 folding buttstock as well. The raised rail will be able to be swapped out for a flush reciever rail as well, so that should make EVERYONE who was bitching happy.
And were can I get a Daewoo DR200? I already knew about them, but didn't list them as an option because I figured they were hard to get.
DR200's are available on gunbroker all the time. And I think they are everywhere back east ( at least all the DR's on gunbroker seem to be from eastern states). I suppose the fair price over there is about $550-$600 for a like new one?
Got mine new test fired only from gun broker at $600 with some accessories.
Ace makes conversion system for this model. To have a pistol grip you will need 8 US parts, I replaced the trigger group with a RRA match (3 parts), installed ACE grip and folding stock (2 parts), and use only US made AR mags (3 parts; it is actually hard to find a non-US made AR mag;) ). I wanted to upgrade the trigger pack and add folder anyway, so I acutally didn't spend the money just for 922r compliant. Conversion cost was about $250.
grouping is usually 1.5moa-2moa 5-shot, with most factory ammo.

The cheapest one I have seen so far is $699 on Gunbroker...I might get one later, but since I am in on the group buy for the SIG 556, I will just stick to that for now. I like the looks of the SIG 556 better anyways, lol.:p
I like the Sig rifles but i wish they would have left all the AR-15 stuff where it belongs on an AR.

From what I was told, it was due to L.E. requests. They can use the SIG 550 folding stock and foregrip, so the "purists" can't bitch. :p
I do like that the barrel can be changed out anyone heard what the price will be on them.

MSRP is $1299, but the group buy I am involved in should have our rifles somewhere in the $900 range. Considering you have flip-upsights, and the foregrip has three places to mount stuff, AND...it uses the proven SIG 550 piston system it's not a bad deal at all, IMHO. You can't touch a Leitner-Wise or a P.O.F. piston driven AR for that.
 :sniper: Nice rifle, but for that money wouldn't you rather have 2 ARs ?

I don't want to turn this into a bashing of the AR platform, but since you asked that question, I will give you my honest answer/opinion :
No way. I don't like the direct gas impingement system at all. I would much rather have the much less maintencance intensive, cleaner running piston system that the SIG 556 uses. The best part is, is that it's already a proven system as it uses the exact same OP system as the SIG 550 series.
I don't have any use for a SHTF rifle that is as maintenance intensive as the AR platform.
Now bear in mind that I have NEVER owned one, but I have done a chit-pile of research on it as I was once interested in owning one. I have even talked to those who have been to the sandbox as well. But, I can say one thing good about them and that is that they are VERY ergonomic. They feel like they were made for me. That having been said, I was going to go with the P.O.F. piston driven AR...till I saw the group buy on this badass rifle that is.
But P.O.F.'s price is $875 just for the upper with the standard hand guard and $100 more for the upper with the railed fore-grip.
My price on this rifle should be in the $900 range, so that's a bargain for me. Not to mention being one of the first kids on the block to own this awesome rilfe! -_-
Vincent,if you come to "Gulf States Distributers" here in Montgomery your price will probably be even better. We are a Sig law inforcement distributer (not dealer).Dealers buy from distributers. 334-271-2011 :sniper:

So it's nothing more than a hybrid AR with an AK operating system?

So it's nothing more than a hybrid AR with an AK operating system?
Actually, in it's current configuration, it looks more like the love child of an AR and a original SIG 550.
But...according to the SIG reps, the front guard can be swapped for a SIG 550 fore grip and the AR stock can be changed to have a SIG 550 folding stock. They stressed that this was a prototype that was brought out at the SHOT show to get feedback on and make any changes based on the customer's remarks, to they are atleast listening to the people before making a "final model". So it could turn out different than what it looks like now.
One of the main complaints about it was the fact that it used an AR stock on it, so I would look for that to either change, or to have an option to have a SIG 550 folding stock on it.
I was going to get a P.O.F. gas-piston AR rifle anyways, and this is going to be much cheaper than that, so for me it's a win-win situation. :)
Damn that sounds like a very good deal to me wish i had the cash to get one hopefully things will change before they start shipping them.:usa:
OK,I tried to tell you.:sniper:

Will others be allowed in on your group buy?

Yes, but at a higher cost.
And I sent my $200 deposit yesterday, so it's a done deal, all I have to do now is wait! :)

I love the 55X series but this thing is ugly.
The furniture is horrible looking. Yes it is nice that is comes with VFG/Light rails as standard, but they could have designed some elegant yet conservative furniture to put them on.
I dislike the AR type stock they have on there. Yes it is functional but it just doesn't look like it belongs.
The raised rail bothers me to.
Yes its all asthetics, but if I'm expected to plop down well over a thousand bucks I'd want something that pleases my eye!

SIG has already said that there will be a folding stock option (SIG 550 stock), the raised rail can be replaced with a flush one, and the foregrip stock set from the original SIG 550 can be used instead of the one that is on there now. That, and SIG said that was a prototype so they could get feedback from people at the SHOT show who seen it.
So it may not even look like that by the time they are made, but I don't care because I just want another option to the AR besides my Ruger GB.
