I've got a midirected post in the chit chat section for viewing essentially what I was asking is for a view on using Krylon as an alternative to the Duracoat type system of gun finishing.

Though it might look great when you're done I think that cleaning solvents, oil and heat will take it's toll quickly. I wonder if there is a type of engine paint that might do the trick?
I hope it's not grand dad's 1911 from either of the big one's!:) Whatever paint/finish ya use let me know how it turns out and how it holds up.....good luck!

The only typr I would even think of would be the ceramic header paint.
It's good to about 1200 degrees. Prep and clean with brake cleaner, then spray.

I'm set up to use the Duracoat (GunKote etc.) system.I just finished the paint booth and wash tank.I decided to go with a proven system re: parkerize first then spray with Duracoat etc.I tried the Krylon on an old Ramline stock and I didn't like the thick paint look and buildup it gave when applied in multi colored camo,so,I'm doing Duracoat.I have a SS parkerizing tank to build and then I'm set.

Flat black rustoleum worked great on some of my mags. I sanded them down and then put 3-4 coats on them, but they dont heat up like the rest of the gun would.
