Here's my 1951 Russian from the Tula plant. All numbers match, two cyrillic letters and four digits comprise the serial number. Stock has refurb markings, but no refurb marking on receiver or cover.

Congratulations on your new SKS! It is a beauty!
My Russian has a laminated stock which is very nice, but I DO like the solid once piece of wood!
Take that out and heat up the barrel!
Good Shooting!

NWO,
Your '53 looks pretty good as well.
The strange thing about this '51 is, there is not any refurb markings anywhere, other than the stock. The finish needs some work, other than that it is cherry.

My '53 has no refurb marks on it at all. It is all original. My Wife and I were very lucky to find it.
Perhaps yours is all original as well, except for the stock. Maybe the original stock was damaged or something, and this is a replacement, or a repaired one.
At any rate, it is a beauty. Are you going to shoot it, or get an old Yugo beater to shoot? I still have not fired my Russian as yet. I have been shooting my ugly Yugo! :rapid:
They are all great shooters though, so ENJOY it no matter what you do with it!
Good Shooting!

I do plan on shooting it. Not as much as my Norinco. However, it is also a strange one, it is a 406 factory code. dates to 1977 manufacture, un-fired when I got it. I have swapped out the handguard with one that matches the wood grain and hue of the stock since this pic.

Your 406 Norinco looks pretty nice. How long have you had it, and what did you give for it?
I was at our local gun show yesterday, and there were quite a few Norinco SKSs there. All of them looked 'brand new', and did not look like a military rifle should look. None of them were priced lower than $350. I thought that was a more than a bit high!
I even found a Russian one there for over $500! It was not nearly as nice as your Russian, or mine.
How does your Norinco shoot?
I had a Norinco SKS years ago that was the biggest piece of junk. I never could get it to feed properly no matter what I did. It jammed every other round. I finally traded it off for a Marlin Camp 9.
By the way, did you build that rifle rest? That looks nice!
At any rate, you have two nice looking SKSs there! Enjoy them!
Good Shooting!

I picked this one up about two months ago. $160 otd at a gun show near Atlanta. It shoots great! I need to adjust the sight as last time I was out I did not take the tool. This SKS is as smooth as silk! I built the rest a cleaning/work stand. It is about 22 years old. I have a post on the Mini 14 page with pictures and very crude dimensions. I'd like to get one of the Camp 9's.
I saw a few Russian SKS's that had the living tar beat out of them at the show. One was $375 and the other was $400. The Yugos were going for over $200. This was the only Norinco I saw. Seems like it was the runt of the litter!
I'm glad you have had better luck with your NORINCO than I did with mine years ago. I'm glad I got rid of that thing.
I currently have two Marlin Camp Nines. They are sweet little carbines.
I'll take a look at your post in the MINI-14 forum about your rest.
My Wife and I went back to our gun show today. There were more SKSs out for sale. All of the 'new' ones today were the Yugoslavian ones. They were all in various condition, with the nicest ones going for about $269. The least expensive one was $169. I almost picked one up, but I have a line on another Russian SKS this coming week.
All the Norincos, and the Russian one I saw yesterday were still there. All sad, and over priced.
I paid $149 for my Yugoslavian SKS last month. It was well used, and covered in cosmoline. It is a GREAT shooter though, and I am glad I got it.
Good Shooting!
