I assume they don't manufacture the mags in house.

Excellent question! Does anyone know for sure who makes Ruger mags?

I've heard rumors that OEM mags were once mfg by PMI, but I don't think that's case. It's easy to see the differences when you hold a PMI and OEM mag side by side. I've not seen another mag that would pass for OEM and that leads me to believe they are made in house.

Yeah, the PMI rumor kind of made sense about fifteen years ago.<G>

How could this be a mystery?

I have seen this question asked many times over the years, yet I have never seen a definitive answer.

Ruger has been responsible for producing probably 100,000's of Mini-14 mags over many years and nobody knows the source?

How could this be?

:o

Perhaps they have a super secret factory that is staffed with slave laborers that never leave the premises so as not to let the public know where their mags are made. The poor guys probably live their whole lives within the confines of the Ruger facility and when the end comes they are (no doubt) buried in the company cemetery which is also located on the premises.

There must be 100's of people that know this secret, and yet there is not one recorded incident of a person coming forward with the real word on the Ruger factory mags. I mean, there are guys that work in the factory, truck drivers, sales people, shipping clerks, janitors, secretaries, machinists, sheet metal guys, etc. They all have first hand knowledge of the Ruger factory mag mystery and NOBODY has come forward.

The super secret factory scenario is really starting to seem like the only logical explanation.

The true and verifiable source of factory Ruger Mini-14 mags...one of Life's great mysteries.

For this "secret" to be kept for sooo looong, I really have no problem in accepting the fact that Area 51 is being used for "other" things besides secret aircraft development. Essential things far more important than the safety of our skies.

Sheesh- it ws a simple question. Being new to Mini's, I simply wanted to know.
Forgive me, I'll not ask another question on THIS board.

allmons, I honestly think that they were made in house like all of their other stuff.

Over the YEARS, this question has been asked, all answers that I have seen have included caveats like "I think" or "I assume" or "I believe", etc.

No one knows for sure. How could this be?

I, for one, am looking into the possible Area 51 connection.

I think you must be thin skinned. I fail to see where anybody called you out in this thread. It looks like a couple of people were poking fun at the facts or lack there of reguarding Ruger OEM mags.

We could turn this thread into a peeing contest but why bother. A long time ago I called Ruger and asked who made the mags. I was told that it was "proprietary information." In other words, I was advised to **** off.
Ruger's priviledge of course.

I was just joking around in my approach to this issue. I meant no offense to anyone. :D

I have seen this question for years. The Ruger "proprietary information" anwer does not surprise me.

What does surprise me is that Ruger could keep it secret. There are so many people invovled in producing a product for 20 or 30 years that I cannot, for the life of me, imagine how this could still be kept under wraps.

I can see where Ruger would like to keep it secret, but I don't see how they could have pulled it off for so long.

It astounds, befuddles and amazes me.

Seriously though, did Ruger mention anything about Area 51?

Allmons............................if you track one of the threads that I started about high cap mags you will see that I have used this board to find "useable" after market mags since Ruger's are not that available to me here in California. I got some super information. And I haven't been HERE for too long.

I am really frustrated with the whole magazine issue being not more than a year into Mini-14 country, myself. It's a big topic here, isn't it?

I was just "blowin-off" the whole thing and had a bit of a chuckle with others.

Had no idea anyone would take it "wrong".

Stick around, eh?

It's pretty easy to keep stuff like that under wraps if you think it's important.

I wrote them a letter asking about buying parts for my Mini-14 GB and the high capacity magazine.

They didn't even answer the first request. They acted pretty snippy on the second request.

Probably lucky that they anwered me at all.<G>

They are amazingly forthcoming on stupid answers like when it was made and the barrel twist though.
