Can anyone point me to verses, that show whether we get the Holy Spirit at the same time that we are saved, or at a different point in time? Please do not quote Acts 19:2.

Thank you, Signed,

This is one of those topics that can turn into a real can of worms. My belief is that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit begins to dwell within us. That is not to say the Spirit has not been working in our lives previous to our having accepted Christ. It is up to us to keep ourselves a fit place for the Spirit to dwell. I also think the Spirit works through different individuals in different ways with different gifts and outward signs. (Just your bringing this question to the forum shows the Spirit at work in you, IMHO.)

Here are some different verses that deal with the subject. As with any Bible topic, you are going to have some differing viewpoints.

I Jn 5:1 "Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him." As soon as one believes the Bible says we have God the Spirit dwelling inside.

The believer is indwelt by God when they believe (Holy Spirit)- I John 4:15, Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides In him, and he in God."

Eph. 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,"

Eph. 4:3And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 2 Cor. 1:21-22Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God 22who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee."

I Jn 2:26-27 "These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him."

Hope this helps. I am far from being a theologian, but then the original disciples and apostles were just common everyday guys, filled with the Spirit.

At the point when the Gospel plan of Salvation has been obeyed. The last ingredient, is Bastism for forgivness of sins.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Baptism itself dosnt save anyone, it is but an ingredient to your obedience.

Believe- John 8:24
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Repent - Luke 13:3
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Confess Christ as Lord -Romans. 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Baptism for forgivness of sins- Acts2:38, Mark 16:16.
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

While many sprinkle, pour, dry clean and everything else, the word "baptize" has only one definnition.
907 “baptizo bap-tid'-zo from a derivative of 911; to immerse, submerge; to make whelmed (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism:--Baptist, baptize, wash.”
It also directs us to #911 (interesting considering the importance of understanding this.)
911 “bapto bap'-to a primary verb; to whelm, i.e. cover wholly with a fluid; in the New Testament only in a qualified or special sense, i.e. (literally) to moisten (a part of one's person), or (by implication) to stain (as with dye):--dip.”

Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament say this”
907 “1. To dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge.
2. To cleanse by dipping, or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water.”
911 To dip, dip in, immerse” Think about it. When you repent, you are killing the old sinfull self. What do you do with a dead body? You bury it.

Romans 6:4* Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Colossians 2:12* Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

While I wont quote all of Acts 19:2, I will use the last half of it to show that the gift of the Holy Spirit, has something to do with baptism. This is also an example of re-baptism.

"......We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."

There are many questions and arguments about this, I am happy to try to answer any question I can. :)

Can anyone point me to verses, that show whether we get the Holy Spirit at the same time that we are saved, or at a different point in time?

The ones below are the ones that mentioned when we recieve the gift of the "Holy Spirit".

Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 9:2,3,4
"......We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."

I don't know of any verses off the top of my head, but when you are saved, you will FEEL it. I was saved but I was never baptised... I don't know what is more important, the fact that you accept Christ into your life or that others (churches, etc...) acknowledge that you are saved. Every one has different ways of interpreting scripture so I go by what my heart and the Holy Spirit TELLS me is true. I was feeling the Spirit of God tugging on me long before I was saved, and I now KNOW that he was trying to get me to join his flock for some reason. I can't tell you what will happen to you when you feel the spirit or when you are saved, but I will tell you this, once you REALIZE what is going on, you will feel GREAT!!!

Swordslinger, I am gonna PM you 'cause I got somthing to say to you.

Sorry if I got too much off topic there!
