My friend in Afgan. told me the tangos were getting smart and using blankets to hide from thermal imagers at night. He also said there is a good chance they are getting imagers of their own from China. Does anyone here know home made remedies to defeat thermal? I know some companies make fabrics that "cool" off the signature when worn. Are they cheap or expensive? Where can you find them? Do you know of any home made systems that work? It might not hurt to have an anti-thermal blanket or poncho in the bug out pack.

Just a guess here, but I bet one of those silver reflective space blankets would do a reasonable job of hiding body heat. Definately the most compact form of insulation (palm-sized) to stick in a bag. Take two, they're small and cheap.

that's what I was thinking. Take a large camo poncho and turn it inside out. Then take some of that reflective blanket (mylar?) and cut it to fit inside. Attach with shoe glue. Use a cople of blankets for total coverage and for layered protection. The problem is how would I know it works? I can't afford one of those thermal cameras.....I could go down to the Mexican border and run around the desert at night. If the BP finds me I know I have more experimenting to do.

It will have to be good insulation Army thermals detect 1 degree variations in temperature between objects, too cool will also show up. Your face and hands would have to be covered and a warm weapon would show up. At close range 100 meters or so you can see a womans breast through her shirt with M60A3 TTS sights. I read that the Iraqi terrorists would roof the alleys with blankets to give themselves cover.

Space blankets may insulate you, but the infrared lasers that the U.S. troops have now would light that blanket up like a christmas tree under their nightvision.

I don't think you can hide a thermal image but you can definitly disguise it! The best thing would be to hide behind as much Earth as possible.
