M1/Accessories Needed Quiz

Gentlemen This quiz has TWO answers So I need two answers to this one.
I rate this one as Hard. The newbees might need the help of you older guys.

Ok, here we go.
Ordnance in the War. Dept., in Washinton, D. C. as well as Springfield Armory were working on a very important part of the accessories that were issued with the M1 Garand Rifle. No, it's not the combination tool, bayonet or sling. Your hint is as follows:
It keeps the M1 Garand going.
Ok now that you know what it is SA and someone at SA did not like the model sent to them from Ordnance in D.C.

Quiz What accessories was it? Who at SA didn't want it at all. However, he had his own model with some part of it made of Wood.

Gentlemen,

The answer to this quiz is as follows:

Ordnance had a number of models for the cleaning rod. They were looking these over and SA would say no from one that Ordnance sent, these models were going back and forth, this went on for a few months. Mr. Garand looked over the models and favored the model with a wooden handle. I hope you had fun with this one.
