I'm having problems inserting a loaded mag in my mini 30. If the top round feeds from the left side the mag will seat with no problem but if the top round is on the right side it will not. This happens with both factory and after market mags. Makes me think my mini is left-handed. :D Any suggestions ?

Are you doing this with the bolt open?

I've had some problems with some mags when they are full and I try to insert them with the bolt closed.

Dennis,
I'm only having the problem with the bolt in the closed position. It happens when the first round strips off from the right side of the mag and makes no difference if the mag is full or half empty. Kind of a pain when you fire a few rounds and want to clear the rifle and you have to add a round or take one out to get the mag back in the gun. Oh Well,,,,My luck! :(

Don't the obstructions say to insert mag with an open bolt? Cold Iron

The correct way to insert the mag is with the bolt open and locked back.

Makes life more interesting if you don't want to put one in the chamber doesn't it?<G>

I've seen some combinations of rifles and mags that will do what you want. More common that they don't.

I have had the same experience. I like to store my mini 30 with the mag loaded but the chamber empty and the bolt not charged (saving tension on the spring while in storage). All I'd need to do under some kind of stress is charge the bolt and then I'm locked and loaded. I find some of my USA 10 rd mags will allow for this, others like Wood's will not. If you gently fiddle with it, you may find the mag takes. But I agree with the posts here - the mag was meant to be inserted into an open bolt rifle. We may be going against design.

My Ruger 5 and 20 round mags insert with a closed bolt. The 5's slip right in, the 20"s take a little more effort. My John Mason 10's and some other assorted 20's and 30's are difficult to impossible to insert with the bolt closed.
