Here's my M1 carbine - Underwood, manfactured May 1943. I took it apart and all parts are matching Underwood.
However, the underside of the top wood part of the stock is marked "RO-Q", does anyone know what this is?

The sight has been changed at the arsenal. underwood used only L flip up sights. Your handgaurd should be stamped RMC on the bottom. Some of the latter ones were stamped Pedersen U. I don't see anything in any of my books on RO-Q. You are talking about the underside edge of the handquard? Try this site, lots of knowledgeable people.
