I've got a norinco chineese sks I got back in the early 90's that I;ve put thousands of rounds through it. A buddy of mine that has access to weapons that are to be destroyed gave me a milled trigger group out of a doomed sks. So I figure...time to play.

I took the trigger group apart and started polishing the hammer catch angle. Buffed with dremel cloth buff pad and some dremel polishing compound. I got it like glass. I also did the same to the top of the sear( this took like an hour and 1/2 ). I took the hammer spring and cut 3 rounds off of it ( to shorten and reduce pressure on the hammer sear engagment)

Now when I pull the trigger there is still the long pull but it is like butta' and a lot lighter. This thing shoots better than my mini now.

My question is does this spring modification have any negatives as far as not having as much tension needed to cycle the hammer and making the bolt slam harder into the reciever. I thought about that after the mod.

I've shot it about 80 times since and took it apart and looked inside the reciever where the bolt slams and there are pretty good indentations where the bolt is slamming but I'm not sure that these werent already there from the thousands of rounds that were shot b4.

What yall think? Dangerous or not?

What do ya'll think?

Also I'm not recommending anyone try this. I just had to much free time on my hands.

Ive never tried to modify an SKS trigger group, but I have read somewhere that doing so is a gamble more or less. It may work out for the best and you get a smoother trigger pull or whatever, but it is possible to make it go full auto by accident. But, I dont know exactly, that's just what I read, might not be true, but it keeps me from messing with mine.

Spring kits can be purchased for the SKS. The kit includes 1 extra power recoil spring, 1 reduced power trigger spring, and 1 reduced power sear/mag catch spring. I have a kit in the Norinco Poly that's in the safe. Works quite well.

If your interested you might look at Auction Arms (http://www.auctionarms.com) or Gunbroker (http://www.gunbroker.com). Type "sks trigger" in the search area.

I forget who makes them but that's where found mine. They're about $20. I don't think I'd recommend altering the existing spring. Just my $.02. ;)
