Yeah it was in really great shape until this morning when my brother was shoting on the wrong side of the firing line with his Mini-14 and a nice big old piece of brass landed on the stock and left a huge gouge in it

So now I'm going to make him buy it for his crap Chi-com SKS and I'm putting a dragunov stock on mine.

That's a shame. That stock is beautiful.

Eratosthenes-
From the looks of the pic, all is not lost. It looks like the wood was dented, not gouged. Try this trick. Take a damp rag, and put it over the dented wood. Next, take a clothes iron, and set it on the highest steam setting. Put the iron on the damp rag for a few(mayby 20) seconds. It should raise the dent. If not, try a little longer. When(if) it comes back to level, rub w/ a little fine steel wool, wipe off, and re-oil. Chances are no one will notice!! :sniper:

P.S.- that is one really nice looking SKS. Much nicer than some of the ones I see locally, at the stores and shows!!!

That rifle is a Tula Arsenal manufacture, btw. It's a real beauty. Man, that dent in the stock really messed it up! I'd gladly take it off your hands for $50

Its really sad too, you guys don't know the half of it. I haven't been into guns or done anything gun related for 5 years because I bought a Remington 10/22 5 years ago when I was 18 and it ruined my life.
So somehow I was in a gun store about 6 weeks ago and the guy goes "I just got this SKS in yesterday, it hasn't been fired in 10 years..." He had sold it to the owner some 10 years ago and the guy had never shot it. I jumped on it right then and there.
So, I had it for just over 2 weeks and this happens.....

Also, I payed $449.00 plus DOJ and CA state tax which made it $508 out the door. Now to you non-Californians this may sound really high, but I think its pretty good considering how good of shape its in.
So there's no way I'm selling it and if I was going to it certainly would be for $125!

Anyway, I was at the gun show in Fresno on Sunday and at a gun store on Saturday and they had some SKS's there that were close to the same price I payed for mine and they were crap! I couldn't beleive it.

I'm just going to leave it stock and buy another SKS before X-mas and mod the hell out of that one....

I gotta ask...How did that 10/22 ruin your life?

Save your money buddy, all the SKS aftermarket stuff is poorly made garbage...........

I, too, would like to inquire as to how your 10/22 nearly ruined your life.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo. Besides those stocks being aftermarket crap, once you lose the original stock you can cut your resale price in half. Even if you have no plans on selling it you should still keep all the original parts just in case. I really don't see what the big deal is with that tiny dent that you can probably steam out if it really bothers you. Are you guys just being sarcastic? What you have their is a somewhat rare piece of history. You really have a beauty their please don't destroy her original military configuration. Oh well, it's your rifle so you can do whatever you like. Just let it be known that I will be weeping for her.

Ok, I feel like an ass. I didn't catch this the first time thru. "I'm just going to leave it stock and buy another SKS before X-mas and mod the hell out of that one.... " I guess I just got  after I read you were selling the original stock.

Don't worry guys, I'm leaving my SKS 100% bone-stock. I realize now what crap the after-market accessories for the SKS are. I got a whole bunch of it the mail this week and guess what? They are going on my brothers Chi-com SKS ha ha.

Ok, how did the Remington 597 ruin my life? I'll tell you. I was 18 and just out of high school and all excited about getting a gun. So, i bought the 597 and all it did was jam. Jam, jam, jam, jam. It was the worst piece of crap in the world.

So, because of that experience, 5 years went by and I wanted nothing to do with guns. Until I went into a gun store to buy ammo for my brothers Mini-14 about a month ago and I got my SKS. So now I'm back into it , and it alot of fun.

Here's some pictures of my brother shooting it this morning. I like how the SKS bass has lots of hang time....makes for easier picture taking.....

the range i go to is covered, and on the ceiling they have styrofoam for sound deadening. What i like is to look at the ceiling when I get done shooting the SKS and seeing how many shells got stuck in the styrofoam. The SKS ejects straight up and with quite a bit of force...

We just shoot at various crap, thats the most fun IMO. Last weekend we brought a big TV and shot it with 4 guns at the same time, now that fun!
