I heard that some of them have a gas problem, particularly the ones with the grenade launcher. I was considering getting a Yugo since they can easily be had for 100 dollars or so, and that's cheap. But after hearing this I was reconsidering since I want a good rifle that's quality made. Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks

I got a Yugo from my wife last week for my anniversary. You can read my problems with it here. (http://www.perfectunion.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15602)
The only problems with my guns gas system was corrosion related. At first the gas valve was corroded and wouldn't move. A little Kroil and I got it freed up to move and then removed it for cleaning. The gas tube has some corrosion, but really not to bad and it didn't take to much time to clean out. The gas piston, piston extension and spring were in good shape and just required a general cleaning.
Other than the bore problem, it is a very nice gun and in fairly good shape. For the price what do you have to lose.

I have a "Like new" Yugo SKS and though I haven't had it long enough to shoot a lot, I've had zero problems. I think that if you shop around, and find a good one, you'll have a fine rifle.

I purchased two U-fix em yugos at bargain basement prices, both were supposed to have problems with cycling and ejecting, but otherwise were in good shape. It turned out the gas shutoff for the grenade launcher on both of these was very stiff and tough to get back into the proper location, after working with it a little and using a little brake free, I got one running great. On the other I noticed a slight ridge of metal on the bolt that wasn't supposed to be there, I took a file to it, and now it runs perfect too. I must have invested a total of an hour in both of these to get two great rifles.
