I just saw the Promag site and it looks like 30rd mini14 mags were taken off the list. Did they scrap production of these? The 20's are great but 30's would be better!

I don't know about promag, but Ruger quit making their 30 rounders because almost always the 20th 0r 21st round would jam. Maybe promag was having the same problem.

Actually, the report was:

[Ruger] Magazines: 30rd magazines are officially discontinued. 20rd magazines
are still available for eligible purchasers. No word on whether or not
Ruger will offer the 20's to the commercial market if the AWB sunsets.
30rd magazines do not work reliably with the new Ruger synthetic stock.
Almost without exception, a failure to feed will occur on the 20th or
21st round.

Fortunately, Ruger 30 round mags work just fine with other stocks, both wood and synthetic.

Yeah, that's what I said.

Whats the difference on the Ruger Synthetic stock that causes this misfeed problem?

Is reverse engeneering dead?? Get a few of the 30 rounders, find out why they work and you'rs don't and make apropriate changes. Viola, working 30 rounders for the masses. It worked for IBM, it can work for Promag.

Has anybody recieved any steel 30rounders yet? Every site I check says they don't have them yet.

I haven't found a place that has them yet. I've got a couple of places that are supposed to email me when they get the mags in stock. I'm really wanting to try some of them out. Come on ProMag, get with the program.

This is almost a duplicate post of one I just made on another string but here goes anyway.
Dillon has Promag 30's for $20 on page 11 of their July Blue Press. I didn't find them on-line but that is still the June Issue.

the 30 round mags on page 11 are the polymer mags and not the steel mags.

Midwayusa says " Date Expected In-Stock: 7/15/2005" and their price is $23.49. I think I will wait till Natchez gets some in stock.

Phase of the moon? Position of the planets?

It sounds unbeleiveable. Probably a figment of someone's imagination.

PMI and Promag are very different companies. My PMI 30 has been flawless ($30 at gun show). I do not trust Promag due to bad experience with other guns (honestly have not tried with mini though).

Paying the extra and getting factory I feel is the best way. When you consider this is a life saving tool and how long the mag lasts, the extra $20/mag for factory doesn't seem that bad.

Of course this is a mini-14 and a ruger - so phases of the moon may have an effect...

I wouldn't base my opinions of ProMag Mini-14 magazines on their other products.
I have tried ProMag 17rd magazines in my Ruger P95, and I would classify them as marginal at best. I only use them for "plinking" and cerainly would not trust my life to them.

But the ProMag steel 20's I have function flawlessly in my Mini's. I have put at least 500 rounds through each of them.
They appear nearly identical to Ruger factory 20's in form and function.

I too am very anxious for the ProMag 30's to hit the market so that we can all fully test them.
