Hi Cajun Joe, Rutro & other mini fans
Been a while since Ive made my presents known but have been lurking in the shadows lately and couldn't resist taking a chance on the new target competition challenges.. The MOA club will be hard to crack but am going to try later.
For now I,ve entered my series 1 scoped mini 14 target for farther consideration. Its not my tighest group ever but the best with the the shots hitting the 10 ring as of late..
For the record my mini is a series 196 stainless-synthetic stock--. Mods include home made smaller gas bushing-along with retorqued gas block--neoprene recoil bushing from glass setting blocks 1/8" --side bedding screws thru stock into mag well(as per Rutro's) and of course the Clark Stabilizer I received basicilly for free when purchasing the mini and four mags for 4 bills!!!(what a deal) Oh yeah the trigger is still stock!!!
I SHOOT RELOADS only. These target loads were once fired in my mini--(purchased as once fired) neck sized only, (making this the third shot from them) --Rem 7 1/2 primers--26.1 grs BLC2 powder behind Sierra 52 gr HPBT.
I used a MTD red shooters rest type thingee on the tailgate of my 4X4 CHEVY EX CAB for a shooting platform so I could use a chair to rest my a$$..Oh,by the way the scope I used for this group and for the 1st time on the mini is a 6.5 x 20 SIMMONS MAG-44.. Don't need to walk to target to see holes unless the are in the black. (good thing)
My hats off to all the inovations others have used to make thes weapons shoot better but as you all know, it can be done..
I do also have a mini 30 but 1 1/2" groups are the best from it but it's a work in progress that with tips from this board will some day crack the inche group or i'll die trying hehe!!

Cajun Joe-- Thought of you the other day while reading in the reeding room the other day an article from the June 2003 vol. 51 no2 edition of Precision shooting on page 21 plus written by Dick Wright and quoteing Tony Boyer about 3 & 5 shot groups.."Three shots proves the rifle, five shots prove the shooter"

Very good shooting dropalong. A perfect 50 pts. Thanks for the detailed info on the mods you've done to your Mini. Welcome back.

BTW how come the hole at 8:00 looks like a 30 caliper hole?

Hey Droopalong long time!!! Great shooting cat. Did you have to push a bullit in that outside hole at 8 o'clock to tell if it was 10? That's what it looks like. I've had to do that myself once or twice. We are leaving this morning for the E.Texas woods. So will be off line for a while. Looks like it's trying to be a little cool up there this week. This contest is getting down to group size for 1st. place. Who would have ever thought that could happen in a mini-14 contest? I think it's great!!! You guys keep it up!! I picked up a couple of different styles of 50gr. bullits to load since they are what mine seems to like best so far so watch out I'm still shooting!!! Next time ya'll hear from me I'll be back on the dial up, sure gona miss this DSL but thats the price for being out in the sticks. B)

Hello Again!
Rutro nailed it!!, as per suggestions posted I inserted a 50 gr 22 cal bullet into outer most hole to show true spread, the color contrast Steve4102 is from the copper bullet to the yellow sticky note on the back of the target used for color contrast since without it the holes on the black target were showing black from the scanned copy (not good)
Thanks for the edit Cajun Joe, The post looks great now.
Welcome back to TEXAS Rutro. Hope your trip is safe.
Kinda wish they were 308's from my mini 30 CJ, and hopefully some day they will be.. As Larry The Cable Guy says
GET ER DUN!!!

Well dog my cats, I just knew 2rangers had this one sowed up by himself, but to be a Co-Champ with the likes of any of the shooters on this forum is really an honer!!! Thanks, and my mini's thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
The new contest really looks like fun, can't wait to try it out.. My mini 30 is starting to come around to a 1"shooter but not real consistent just yet, probably the shooter!!
The real perplexity is in the 308 verses the 311 size bulletts.. All being sierra 125 & 150 spitzers.. Some days it likes the 08 the next its the 11's .. Go figger after all its a mini right, nothings easy!!!
Thanks again all, hope to see some 50's in the new contest!!!
Question for clairity Cajungoe, can the same mini be used with a harmonic tuner of sorts and also without it in another class it it is an easily detatachable item?? Pictures with target perhaps??

As long as it's in the proper configuration when shooting. I have done it, with scope on and with scope off to compete in 2 classes.
