Hi Cajun Joe, Rutro & other mini fans
Been a while since Ive made my presents known but have been lurking in the shadows lately and couldn't resist taking a chance on the new target competition challenges.. The MOA club will be hard to crack but am going to try later.
For now I,ve entered my series 1 scoped mini 14 target for farther consideration. Its not my tighest group ever but the best with the the shots hitting the 10 ring as of late..
For the record my mini is a series 196 stainless-synthetic stock--. Mods include home made smaller gas bushing-along with retorqued gas block--neoprene recoil bushing from glass setting blocks 1/8" --side bedding screws thru stock into mag well(as per Rutro's) and of course the Clark Stabilizer I received basicilly for free when purchasing the mini and four mags for 4 bills!!!(what a deal) Oh yeah the trigger is still stock!!!
I SHOOT RELOADS only. These target loads were once fired in my mini--(purchased as once fired) neck sized only, (making this the third shot from them) --Rem 7 1/2 primers--26.1 grs BLC2 powder behind Sierra 52 gr HPBT.
I used a MTD red shooters rest type thingee on the tailgate of my 4X4 CHEVY EX CAB for a shooting platform so I could use a chair to rest my a$$..Oh,by the way the scope I used for this group and for the 1st time on the mini is a 6.5 x 20 SIMMONS MAG-44.. Don't need to walk to target to see holes unless the are in the black. (good thing)
My hats off to all the inovations others have used to make thes weapons shoot better but as you all know, it can be done..
I do also have a mini 30 but 1 1/2" groups are the best from it but it's a work in progress that with tips from this board will some day crack the inche group or i'll die trying hehe!!
Cajun Joe-- Thought of you the other day while reading in the reeding room the other day an article from the June 2003 vol. 51 no2 edition of Precision shooting on page 21 plus written by Dick Wright and quoteing Tony Boyer about 3 & 5 shot groups.."Three shots proves the rifle, five shots prove the shooter"
