Well I wanted to test the accuracy of my PTR beyond the limits of these 45 year old eyes. I found a B-Square weaver mount on sale at MidwayUSA. It mounts firmly to the built in scope mounts and comes with Weaver rings. Its a see through mount and the rear sight doesn't have to come off. A red dot may be in the future.

Very nice, that is somthing that I have thought about doing, buying one of those more "permanent style" mounts. I realise it comes off fairly easily as well, but my pressure style ARMS claw mount does a number on my finish in that area. Looks like it comes with some fairly nice rings also!

Wolf, The mount has 2 set screws that you snug down to keep pressure against the
legs and another set of set screws to lock down the big ones. It seemed extremely firm. My only problem now is the scope I had planned to use, I want to make sure there is enough room while using the iron sights to keep from getting beaned.

I also had a issue finding a scope that had the correct eye relief, and went with the NcStar one I saw at a gun show. It was about $70 only and I think fits the rifle very well. Even regular compact scopes had problems on it. The Leupold compact I have on my Mini14 was bought for my HK, and just didnt work well. Hopefully it all works out with what scope you picked out or have. Blackeyes or briused foreheads arent any fun when your out shooting lol.
hi i just sold my mini and bought a fal L1a1
i bought a tapco cover/scope mount and put a tasco6x18x50 on it
it lasted 50 rounds and does not hold zero anymore
now i bought a leapers mill dot and hope it can stand the recoil

I just finished mounting my scope, I'm using a Swift made in Korea, We shall see how it works. I should be OK with the scope its only using iron sights that I'm concerned with. Anyone try a reddot on an HK or FAL?

I have the Tapco mount on my PTR. I'm not very happy with the accuracy. Not real sure if its the mount or the rifle. I was thinking of going with a low mount; but, I would have to remove the rear sight. Any thoughts, experiences, etc.
Thanks,
Ken

I re-sized a picture of the whole set up with scope a Nikon shotgun scope. I wanted some extra eye relief since the first one cut my nose on recoil and a cheek rest to raise up the cheek weld for a more consistent sight picture.

My mount is definitely moving. I have it on as tight as can be. Did anyone try tapping a rail right on the the receiver. Can it be done? Thoughts.

I dont't think there is enough room to get a good hold though the receiver top before it might hit the bolt carrier. Here is a picture of mine which has held up very well after 2 range sessions and several monthe in the safe.

That pretty much looks like mine; although, mine has a rail on the side. Do you know the make of yours.
Thanks,
Ken

Its a B-square which I got at Midway for around $60. It has 2 set screws on top that snug down to keep pressure on the side clamps. I couldn't see spending $200 for the German HK mount. No side rail though don't need a flashlight or laser on it:D . I started this thread when I found it. I wanted a scope on the rifle to really wring out its accuracy potential.

I'm actually going to mount a rail right to the receiver. I'll drill and tap it than use a steel epoxy. If the epoxy doesn't hold, I'll find someone to braze it. I'll let everyone know when I finish the project. :)

Good Luck Ken, I hope it works out.

I mounted the rail on my PTR by drilling through the receiver and using screws. I works. I had to remove the back sight. I see that PTR is actually offering it with a weld on rail. :D
