View Full Version : Not the only one having a bad day
Just after dark, a friend calls and wants me to come to the range.
Seems he was having a problem with his mini14.
When I get there, the magazine is stuck in the gun
The back will release, but it wont come all the way out.
After bit of working it back and forth, we did get the thing out.
Looking at the mag id page, I think it is a western 20 rounder(maybe)
what a piece of junk.

The western mags are either a hit or miss. I got lucky with the 2 I got. They haven't given me trouble yet, but then Ive' only used them 3 times or so. Maybe your friend should try some Pro-mags or some ruger 20 rnd mags if he can find them. They sell quick. PMI are also good mags, but they are getting harder to find, and cost more than the Pro-mag or sometimes more than the Ruger.
I bought a Western 20 rounder ounce. It had a few hi-cups with the first twenty rounds, but then the magazine seemed to break in and I didn't experience any more problems until around 500 rounds. When I last checked function of the magazine I couldn't even get four rounds cycled (live firing) with out a failure to feed. I Needless to say that magazines now in my shooting supplies junk box along with some Triple K's . I never dropped the magazine so I guess it just wore out. Maybe they use weak springs that wear out fast. Altough I do remeber not being very impressed by the followers. Furthermore their Magazine bodys look like they were made in a high school metal shop.

I had a 30 round, stainless Western once.
That thing was dangerous.
I took it apart a few times and tinkered with it, trying to get it to feed properly.
I couldn't get it to work right, so it now lives in a landfill somewhere.
Dangerous garbage.
