mag pouches for the 20 round Mini 14 magazine

Looking for some kind of Magazine pouch that would hold the 20 rounders.

I have a couple of ARF mag pouches (for 30 rounders). I cut a couple of wood blocks that I slip inside of the pouch that takes-up just enough space to allow my 20's to fit perfectly.

Bianchi makes mag cases meant to hold two pistol mags. They have a plastic insert in them to separate the mags. I took a twenty round factory Mini-14 mag into Sportsmans Warehouse to do a fitting job. One of them meant for double wide pistol mags fit perfectly with the plastic dividers removed.

The pouch has two snaps at different levels and I found out when I got home that at the shorter snap setting a ten rounder fit perfectly also. The mags are very secure and fit as snug as a hand in a glove. The clamp attachment on the back of the pouches will work on any belt from a mil-spec pistol belt to your generic pants belt. Also works well on the waist belt of my back pack. Comes in either black or OD green

Cost was about $26.00 but after trying every thing I could find in the surplus stores the Bianchi pouch is the winner!

If money is not an issue, try Tactical Tailor. They have an assortment of pouches that fit the bill.

For my magazine carrying I use Alice Web gear and the standard (3) 30 round magazine/(2) gernade pouch. I just take the styrofoam inserts out of my .45acp Wincheaster boxes, and then cut them to fit the bottom of the pouches. Throw my 20 round magazines and they easy to access like the standard 30 round magazine would be. The styrofoam is cheap, waterproof, quiet and easy replaced. If you plan on carrying more then 3 twenty round magazines at a time I'd suggest web gear.

Dang! I deleted the e-mail yesterday, but J&G sales sent me their monthly add and it had a magazine pouch setup for people who are always prepared. From the looks of it I think it MIGHT be right for 20 rounders.

Maybe someone else got the same e-mail and can post the link? I can't find anything on their web site, but as my wife tells me, "sometimes you're not too good looking".

2nd thought! I just remembered!! :o It is on my business computer. If no one gets back to you first, I'll fire it up later tonight and see if I know what I'm talking about.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news...


The good news is that after a lot of searching through loads of grossly overpriced 'tactical gear', almost all of which was centered around 30-round mags, I finally found a good, inexpensive Cordura triple mag pouch that fits my 20-round Ruger LEO mags perfectly.

It's made by Bagmaster, model MP3A BLK.

I was afraid for the price it would be flimsy, I was surprised at the quality of the materials:

It attaches to a belt via two large loops on the back:

And it was only $15.95 plus shipping. :D


So what's the bad news?

According to Cactus Tactical where I ordered mine, this pouch has been discontinued and once they sell the stock they have on hand, they won't be able to get anymore. They only have about ten left.

Well, nine now, since I decided to go ahead and order another one while I still can.

If they run out, you might be able to find one at another vendor. But this is the only place I saw the 20-round .223 version listed, and it's long gone from Bagmaster's website.

what about 20 round mag puches for the ar15, from blackhawk? i know there not cheap but but id think they would work with mini 14 20 rounders

Yeah, I looked at the Blackhawk mag pouches. They have a single and a double pouch for .223 20-round mags.

Price was a determining factor, since I would have needed three of the Blackhawk double pouches and the cheapest price I found on them was $24.99 each (copsplus.com) plus shipping.

I'm sure they are great, and for someone who needs the best gear they are probably worth every penny.


Bagmaster also has a six-pouch bandolier for .223 20-round mags, but not exactly what I was looking for.

I have been just stuffing a couple of mags in my back pockets, but the 3 mag pouch from Cactus looks good. I ordered one tonight. They seemed to have them in stock.

I have several Type 68 Chinese web gear.

They have 7 pockets and look like the SKS web gear. You can put in 7 mags for easy retrieval or 12 if you pack them tight.

My set-up is 1 in the well and 7 in the web gear. That's 160 rounds.

I also have cardboard sleeves with 3-10 round stripper clips that can be put in some of the pockets so that I can have one in the well, two loaded in the web gear and 150 rounds in cardboard sleeves on stripper clips. That's 210 rounds in 3 loaded mags and 5 carboard sleeves (30 rounds each on 10 round stripper clips).


The Type 68 web gear was designed for the 20 round AK mags and work very well with 20 round Ruger mags.

To me, they are a very good 'grab and run' set-up. Plenty of rounds and very compact.

I like the fact that this web gear has shoulder straps for good load bearing.

I can have my Mini-14 right next to my Type 68 web gear set-up and I am fully ready to go with up to 210 rounds in less than a minute (including the time it takes to open the safe).

I have found that mil-surplus V.N. era mag pouches for the M16 work quite well. They were made in both nylon and canvas. I'm refering to the ones made for 20rnd mags (early V.N. era), not the ones for the 30rnd mags.

Rather than using wood or styrofoam blocks, I suggest using compress bandages, an extra pair of socks, or a roll of tape, etc.
