I had decided to not say or post anything in this section, since my views on religion would clash with just about all here, but I thought that today would be an exception. I find it strange that no one has made a comment on Pope John Paul II's passing. I personnally didn't believe most of what he preached, but I did respect him for the true, courageous, dedicated, humble and holy man that he was.
Could it be that as a Catholic, he can only get a mention from a Pagan? Are those among you who follow different Christian beliefs, so anti-Catholic, that the passing of this man deserves no mention? :( :( :(

I just heard about it half an hour ago.

Don't worry Greybear, most Christians understand that just 'cause your Catholic doesn't mean you can't be saved. It all comes down to who you trust for your salvation. I believe the Pope had his faith in the right place. He's now reaping the rewards of a life spent honoring God. :)

All-
As a catholic, I mourn the Pope's death as the leader of Christ's churches on earth. As a human, I weep for the loss of someone who literally changed the world for the better. John Paul II truly loved and sanctified humanity, and put forth all of his efforts to further a time when all mankind would love each other, as Jesus Christ told us to when he gave us the most important commandment-Love thy neighbor even as I have loved you.

greybear,

i am in complete agreement with you. it is almost like this "religious chit-chat" forum is more in tune with "onward christian soldiers" than "peace on earth, good will toward all men".

the old man never stood for anything but good/god and was shot up by a mad man, impeded by a number of diseases/operations and still traveled the world promoting peace and christianity.

he is to be respected, admired and remembered.

I don't know that statistic, but it's quite possible. I have relatives on both sides who are Catholics. :D

Pope John Paul's track record also included no to birth control, including the use of condums, which can help stop the spread of aids, leading to many children born into extreme poverty, many of whom ,probably, starved or were sold into slavery or the sex trade,as well as opposing stem cell research, which has the potential to help many sick people.Hopefully the next in line will have some more modern views on these and many other issues but i'm not holding my breath. <_<

In my fisrst post I said I didn't believe in all he preached or stood for, but one still can't take away from all the good that he did.

Anyone who knows the catholic churches mission and its followers should know that those are pretty much moot. By the very modus operandi of the catholic church, these positions cannot be made now. I wish it was possible, but without that there would be significant damage done to the church.

Even though I don't agree with the official line, I beleive its the best option. With their position, they can come from the situation of the ideal and then admit that their followers are all sinners and may deviate from the mission statement there.

The pope was a great man, and for the time being I beleive we'd best leave it at that.

I agree that he was a great man and worked for peace. I resent the news coverage, how many scenes of the Popes body lieing in state do we need. I'm sure its not the only thing going on in the world. You could tell the reporters have nothing new to say just the same pictures over and over.

An aside my son told me a Catholic friend was told in church to pray for the Pope to help him get into Heaven. The teen said if the Pope needs our help to get into heaven what chance do we have? :(

Oh boy! Here I am in the Religious area. I hope the walls don't crumble down. ANYWAY!!! For what it's worth I think John Paul II made the world a better in many ways. From what I know of him he tried to show the world that we are all God's children. He crossed boundries set by others before him to show this.

He will truly be missed by more than just the Catholic people of the world.

I'm not Catholic, but this has certainly been interesting. I am actually very interested in who they will pick to replace him. I don't really have a dog in the fight, but I'd like to see the Nigerian Cardinal become Pope. First, I'd like to see the world's reaction to a black Pope. That should be interesting, and possibly entertaining. Second, I think it may create some excitement in Africa, and could possibly help to stop the Islamic onslaught of Africa. Third, I work with a Nigerian Catholic, and he's rooting for his guy, so I guess I will too :D.
