Haven't had a chance to load em up---just wiped em down.
After getting these---I'm even more impressed by the Pro-mag 20 rounders-----these look like junk compared to Promag.
The metal seams where the spot welds are all wavy and sort of wrinkly----visually, the Promags are of superior quality than Ruger factory.
I'll definitely be getting more Pro mags and they can keep the over priced factory crap.
Sorry to say---but factory is no longer the gold standard if this is what they are putting out.
Workmanship is important, but so is quality of materials. I've seen the Promag 30-round polymer mags and I know that they are well constructed and that their springs are of high quality, but I know nothing of the plastic they are made from, except that it is very thick compared to Thermold magazines.
Likewise, from your description the workmanship of the 20-round metal mags appears to be well done, but what of the quality of the metal? In the past, many aftermarket mags have been constructed of soft metal that wore quickly. Are the Promags made of such soft metal? Only someone who has both Ruger factory mags and Promags can compare the two and know for sure. Please keep us posted on how the Promags wear compared to the Rugers.

Are the side of your factory mags marked LEO? If only the floor plates are, they may not be factory. All the factory mags I have beat anything out on the market that I have seen. Just a thought.

They are LEO with all the Ruger markings---even came in the white Ruger box----I compared them to my Promags when I got home----they are IDENTICAL----only the Promags are made better with no waves or gaps on the seams. Oh----the Rugers have a shiney follower.
Only time will tell----but the initial impression is the the factory mags are somewhat lacking.

Interesting. None of my factorys' have bad welds or seams. I wonder what this means in terms of Ruger QA?

There was a rumor floating around awhile back that Ruger did not make any mags. It was that Pro mag was making them. Anyone else ever hear that one?

I know Pro Mag was trying to get the OEM contract to produce for Ruger, hence the floorplates on Pro Mag 10 rounders having stamping spots for Ruger markings. I do not think Pro Mag ever got the contract though. I do believe at sometime Ruger did not produce their 30 rounders, not sure if it is the same with the 20 rounders.

The 10-round nickle ProMags I bought for my Mini 30 look almost identical to my factory Ruger 5-rounder, but there are some subtle differences that add up to real performance differences. The most important difference is that the round rides higher in the ProMags than in the factory mag because the ProMag feed lips are 1/32" wider and taller (above the follower) at the chamber end. When the bolt strips the round, the round goes more straight ahead rather than canting toward the center like with the factory mag. As a result, the rounds with my ProMags didn't feed reliably. I modified the feed lips to be the same as the factory's, and now my ProMags feed fine.
Lots of variables to check, and not all of them are easily seen.
