View Full Version : How about S S 20 rounders
I have not seen many recomendations on stainless mags. I would like to find some reliable 20 rounders! Any ideas on where to look? I do have two of the Westerns from SG, but from what I have read here I do not expect them to be to reliable for long. The only mag my Mini had when I bought it was an Eagle 35 rounder, it works great, but I am not big on plastic mags! Thanks for any help you guys can give!

Have you looked at Bushmaster? http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/10-22/mg-0093.asp I don't know if they're any good, but Bushmaster is sure proud of them. At $31.95, that's about what I paid for the last blue factory 20rd Rugers I got from Cal's.
They have 30s and 40s, too. $29.95 for 30rd stainless and $34.95 for 40rd stainless.

The only stainless mags I have are PMI. Keep in mind they are refering to the finish. They arn't made of stainless steel They are good mags. Promag makes 10 round Nickle, but in 20 rnd only blue.
It does seem that bushmaster is pretty proud of those 20 rounders :o Does anybody have any experience with refinishing a blued mag to a stainless type finish? That would make things much easier.

Bill,
You're reading my mind. I started to leave you a post suggesting you check with a plating shop, but I didn't want you to think I was being a wise guy. I've never had a mag chromed, but I've had a lot of chrome work done for me over the years. Anything that can be buffed on a wheel can be chromed to a highly polished finish. Preparation for plating can be labor intensive. The easier it is to buff, the cheaper it is to plate. They're selling their labor as much as they're selling the plating.
If you have a motorcycle shop in the area, they'll know where to get plating done. They'll also know when is the best time (read cheapest) of the year to have it done. We used to drop off our stuff in the winter. A local car club would be a good source, also. Otherwise, check the yellow pages in your area or get a biker magazine and look for one of the national shops.
If you can't find someone in your area, send me a PM and I'll give you some names and addresses.

It seems Bushmaster is proud of everything they sell these days. I'd be surprised if the mags Bushy is selling weren't some cheap off name mags they had chromed.

I have 3 Federal Ordinance nickel mags, a Scherer mag that has a nickel finish and a stainless PMI. All 30s...
I would like to have a few 20s coated of something in nickel or chrome. I have a factory 20 and 3 PMI 20s. Maybe I'll get some Pro Mags and have them chromed.
I'd also like a reliable stainless style 40 rounder...
My plans are to someday own a Stainless AC556 KF.... I'm stocking up on mags for it now!!!
TwinRugers:
I have a 40 round PMI, SS, new in wrap, I'd part with for $29 shipped.
Let me know if you're interested.
