I have read until my eyes are bloodshot. In one line or less what is you best recommendation for 30rd magazines for the Mini-14 Range Rifle?

1. Ruger Factory
2. Original Thermold (close second)

Unfortunately, neither of these are being made today, so you will have to hunt for them. There are others, but I'm sure you've read about all of them. The above two are the best.

1. Ruger Factory
2. PMI modified with Ruger Followers and Wolf springs.

I'll have to agree with both of the previous responses. I'd place the Original Thermold mags a littel above PMI.

The best cheap mags I've been able to locate are the Eagle 30's.

Never had a factory high-cap, PMI's are the way to go.

The Promag Polymer 30's feed and function perfectly in both of my Mini's.

I second the new polymer Pro Mags. Have one and it works great.

The Promag polymers don't lockup tight enough for me. Let's see how the new metal Promags are when they finally come out.

I havnt seen any Mini Mags lock up tight at all, period. Including ruger factorys ( i have eight of them, new style and old style). --shrug--

I have 29 Ruger Factory 20- and 30-round magazines. They lockup tight. I have five thermolds and they lockup tight. I have two Promag 30-round polymers and they swing forward and backward like seesaws in comparison.

Promag and PMI are different manufacturers.
Promag is making new production magazines.
Precision Mag Industries went out of business becasue of the AWB back in 1994.

OK to summarize:

Ruger factory
PMI (That aren't that available because they went belly up 11 years ago)
Pro-Mag Polymers (what about the Pro-mag Steel???)
Eagle (Which one? Polymer or Steel)

Does that apply to 20 rounders too?

Factory 30s. Period.

However, I have both PMI 30s and Thermold 30s if anyone is interested. Send me a PM.

I have been unable to locate a steel Promag 30 to test. Only the Polymers.

Now you've posed another question, 20's.

I have a few of the Promag 20's, and am hard pressed to tell them apart from my Ruger Factory 20's. They also feed and function flawlessly in both of my Mini's.

The steel Promag 30s have not been produced yet. They may be out in the next few months.
