View Full Version : Savage 308
Finally got my McMillan A5 stock in after a few months wait. Love the Savage and the McMillan stock is something else. The stocks are a little costly - but I think worth the money - added my own butt pad as McMillan wanted close to $100 dollars to put a butt pad on - I got the same butt pad and did for less than $20 bucks. Just have to take your sweet time - sanding it down.

Will add a picture of the groups this is getting. It amazes me how accurate a weapon can be - if everything comes together right.

Damn Dude, THAT is great looking!!! It must be the LE1 cuz my LE2 is WAY longer !
Yuppie - LE1 - 20" barrel. I just like the shorter barrels and regardless - 2" - 6" more barrel for some reason ????? has not made me a better shot. :( :D

Man, that thing looks like a shooter! Also looks like it weighs a ton! ;) :P What's the total weight come out to with the optics and the McMillan stock?
I will weigh the weapon and let you know what it is.
Okay - put it on the bathroom scale and it comes in at 11 pounds. Not a light carry around weapon. But this one will be used on a bipod or just off sandbags/benchrest bench. Have not deceided if I want to put that front stud in yet or not. Would hate to screw something up. The butt pad was pretty easy and came out fine. McMillan wanted $65 dollars to add the butt pad. I did it for $14 dollars.
On the cost of the stock - :o -expect to spent from $450 to $550 - depending what you want with it and a waiting period of 3 to 4 months........ :(
Well - :( - my range report is not good. The weapon shot great - but only put 20 rounds down range. Five round to sight the gun in and 15 rounds - 5 round groups at 100 yards - although I did not measure the groups - they were 3/4 to 1/2" with cheap ammo. The bad thing was the recoil - although not bad - killed my right shoulder that I hand ripped apart and broken last year. Could not even move my arm after just shooting 20 rounds. My 223 never bother me at all.
Well - showed a guy at the range my weapon - he fell in love with it - and I sold it to him on the spot. Rifle only - McMillan came home with me - put in here for sale and sold it within the first 5 minutes it was posted. Lost about $100 dollars on the total deal. Went back down town and purchased a Savage Model 12BVSS – with AccuTrigger - in the 223 - went back to the range the next day - shot over 100 rounds and loved it................... OLD BODIES ----------SUCK ----------

You always have the beautiful bolt guns Coyote. Guns that are uncomfortable to shoot can take the fun out of shooting. I plan on buying a .45/70 but I know it won't be like my Mini that I can shoot all day. Yeah a .375 H&H Mag double rifle would be cool, but that is made for Africa, not shooting paper with my buddies. Nice rifle Coyote! Does it shoot as well as the .308?
45/70 ---------- ouch --------- and the 375 H&H well at least you would have one large ragged hole !!! (with one shot)

Thanks - and yes it does shoot very well - although I will never get the accurate distance that the 308 would - but my shoulder sure feel better. The barrel length went from 20" to 26" and that is a lot of barrel hanging over the end of the stock. I had a quick run at the range but will get it to shoot better. I would of went with the 10FP LE1 in a 20" barrel if they would of had one in the 223 - but thats water under the bridge. This new one - weighs a ton.....
