Good Looking Rifle you have there TANK.
I have an HK-91 which I love.
I have heard that the PTRs are very good rifles. I almost bought one before I found my HK.

Nwo, its done well so far. NJ law won't let me have a real HK so I will have to make due.
TC :cannon:
Is there a big difference between the HK and the clone? Yours looks real nice, i might get one!

Doc as far as I know the weapons are near identical. PTR claims that they made the rifle to German specs. Many of the internal parts are made by H&K their stamp is on them. The major difference is the heavy target barrel and the stock and fore grip which aren't as good as the originals. Most H&K parts should interchange. So far I'm very happy with mine I would highly recomend it.

Very nice, where would be a good place to find one on the internet? Around town firearms seem to be about 200+ what they go for anywhere reasonable. THanks!

tankcommander,
very nice, i like the green. but the wood just adds something plastic can not. mine was all black w/retractable stock.
i like the heavy barrel, my steyr AUG/USR has one. that, plus semi-auto is what makes it a USR.
my original H&K 91 barrel was given a 75,000 rd life, do you know what the heavy barrel is?

Doc I believe Sarcos had them for sale through FFls I think they are listed in the Mini BB links. I think if I had looked around I might have found a better price but it was a local store and they took a few rifles in trade. You might also want to check the auction sights.
Swill the wood is on the way. Up close the rear stock seems toy like. I made it to the range today with a friend and went through 185 rounds. I had 1 failure to extract with 308 ammo which some say doesn't work well in 7.62x51 chambered rifles and 1 failure to feed because I didn't let the bolt slam forward on a fresh magazine. The bolt has to slam forward to seat properly. It still rates as one of my favorites though I'm going to try that scope mount.

How much did your PTR cost?

Well I found the reciept, the list price was $899.00. I rushed into it because it was the first one I had seen since this type of rifle used to be banned in NJ. I didn't take the time to shop around. Then when the owner said he would consider a trade
I was hooked. I got rid of 3 rifles I didn't want anymore and didn't have the time to try and sell. I'm happy with the deal I made. Just got some wood furniture for it and I'll post the pictures as soon as I get it cleaned up.

tankcommander,
how did it shoot? what kind of shooting did you do; plinking/targets, prone, standing/off hand, bench rest? what kind of groups did you get?
for that price, if it performs as well as H&K i will get one. used (90% grade) H&K 91's are about $3000 here. keep us up dated.

Swill, I re-zeroed the weapon at 25 meters from the bench and once it was on target the group was under an inch. After that it was plinking. I didn't have my glasses so I couldn't try for groups at 100 yards. But I could consistantly hit a head and shoulder target at 100 meters and could break cly pigeons at 50 meters.
The latest issue of Americn Rifleman reviews a shorty folder with a 16 inch barrel and got groups from 1.24" to 3.06" with different ammos. I was using mostly surplus.
AR I'm in the process of changing the stock and foregrip to wood, should like a lot better. when I'm done. I'm stripping and refinishing the wood first.

Swill I can't recommend this rifle more. Also I paid a steep price yopu should be able to do better if you look around. Also look for serial#s over 1000, early teething problems with extraction fixed with the higher numbers.

I really like the look of the green furniture. The wood will also look very nice when you get that on there. I wish sombody made a wood set for the 93, then I could make mine look alot more like a STG44.

Guys finished the wood this evening. Stripped it with MEK and finished with tung oil. The pistol grip was really scratched up so I just wet sanded them out. What do you think.

tankcommander,
"WOODY" is great, i named my H&K 91 "heavy metal".

Congrats on your acquisition! I've read and heard nothing but good about the PTR91 version of the HK. In fact, American Rifleman magazine has a review of a current PTR91KP collapsible stock carbine this month, and THEY were impressed with quality, accuracy, comfort of use (with the retractable stock!) and reliability. This is great news to us HK fans!...now if they'd only bring out a PTR93!
