My brother has a Glock 23 on the way back to the factory to repair the extractor. We were shooting some reloads I had, 180 gr Gold dot hp that were loaded a little hot for the Glock. It blew a hole in one case in the 6 o'clock postition which I guess is a separation in the chamber of Glocks. I have a Ruger P91 that shoots them fine but if you shoot a Glock use mild loads. We have shot alot of 155 gr fmj and no problems.

I don't remember which thread it was, but I think another member posted something about Glock "K-booms" (a cute term for Glock failure  ) Basically, if you shoot reloads, there is a possibility that the case could rupture at the 6 o'clock position. Because the barrel is recessed (correct term?) part of the bottom of the case is not supported in the Glock. As far as I know, only the heavy caliber Glocks (.40 sw, .45acp) have been affected. The only remedy I saw was to shoot only factory new ammunition. If you shoot reloads, the case could already be stressed. The lack of support in the chamber could contribute to a k-boom.

Don't know what's up with the microscopic font size! <_<

My brother sent his Glock off for repairs and went out and bought a Ruger P94 40 sw. That was interesting to read about the K-boom, thanks Krav. It seems the heavy 180 gr bullets from factory gave the owner problems also. I'm a Ruger pistol guy, P85 and P91 that shoot great for me.

Whew! I just had to pull out my XD and check to make sure they weren't THAT similar to the glock. Nope, looks good all the way around the chamber.

Personally I don't believe that when an over pressure round in a Glock blows out at 6 o'clock that it's a KB. It's more like the over pressure vent in a pressure cooker. A true KB is when the gun itself blows up along with the overpressure round. What would you rather have, the case of an over pressure round safely blowing out straight down through the mag well, or blowing the barrel up and your hand along with it? Normal full pressure rounds are fine in Glocks.
