My PTR91 came with green plastic furniture. I have always liked the look of wood and I have seen a few posts of hot barrels melting the foregrip. Ant how I saw a set of wood furniture for the G3 on CDNN for $29.99 used. Any opinions? Since this is NJ I don't have to worry about extra weight. I like the look of wood convince me.

TC, you can get wood furniture for a G-3 at any number of places other than CDNN. Cheaper than Dirt, Tapco, Guns n Stuff (FAC), just to name a few. Shop around, but remember you may have to do some modifying to make the wood fit.

Greybear, thanks I looked around and Cheaper Then Dirt had them much cheaper but mention they are for pre-ban guns. Since I have a PTR with a heavy barrel, the forgrip probably wouldn't fit. I don't know if I want to cut it to fit and possibly ruin it. I may leave well enough alone, Though I saw a nice scope mount weaver rail at Tapco. It had weaver rails on three sides for lights and lasers. Oh if only I had lots of money.

TC, the mods on forearm grip are a simple dremel and file work, you wont be taking off much. The tri-rail mount may work but make sure that your rifle has the stops to keep the mount from moving forward under recoil, that happens with that type of mount.

GB, All the stocks have recoil springs and buffers in them do you think it would affect recoil. Now some are listed as used and some are surplus not issued. That may mean alot. Dremel and file I can do.

TC, you have to be careful of the recoil spring guide it sometimes will geeet slightly bent. Depending on the furniture that you get it could slip on easy, or you will have to do some filing and dremel work. I had to change the spring guide on my CETME, and I wound up doing a lot of filing, since (A) the rear stock wouldn't meet up with the receiver, and (B) the recoil guide rods cap was a different diameter, so It took me a few hours of filing to make everything match up. But I was working at making G-3 parts match up on a CETME. You may not have that problem, since the PTR is made mostly on H&K G-3 specs.

Greybear check out the work in the gallery. The operating rod was bent so I took off the PTR parts, rod buffer and cap and put the wood on that. The front handguard needed a bit of grinding for the pin to line up. Then it was refinished and I like the way it looks.

The wood looks awesome, better than the green IMO.

I think so too Oracle. It took some work but I think it was well worth it. It seems more military and less toy like.

Tank, would you want to sell your green furniture? If so, please let me Know, you can E mail me at (deleted). IMHO the green makes these rifles look more unique.
Thanks,

Doc, The plastic is no longer factory, to aid in barrel cooling I drilled out the simulated slots and the stock was dammaged slightly taking it off the steel cuff.
I thought the buffer screw had to be taken out to get the stock off and JBL had glued the butt plate on. I used a screwdriver to get it off only to find out that they did not use the big buffer screw at all. I wouldn't feel right selling it. Who knows I may change it back some day.

Oh.....wood looks nice too  . Good luck with that great rifle, TC. I was thinking about putting a wide forearm on mine, will an original HK fit on the PTRs without mods?

I was able to get the wood grip on but it didn't quite line up to fit thr pin. I needed a mm or so So I took a dremel and a grind stone in a drill to just the front, to remove a small amount of metal in the first inch or so. It took about10 minutes or so. An HK may need a bit of fitting but not much. Also CDNN had green stocks for sale as well.
