View Full Version : HK-91 RECOIL BUFFER HELP NEEDED.
Hello All!
I am wondering if anyone can help me out here.
I recently purchased a BUFFER TECHNOLOGIES recoil buffer for my HK-91.
I tried to install it tonight, but could not.
The instructions that came with the buffer say to first remove the stock. I did that with no problem.
Then they say to remove the butt pad from the stock in order to remove one screw that secures the factory metal buffer. (there are two other screws on the opposite side that need to be removed as well. I did that, also with no problem, as they are easy access and right out in the open.)
I have no idea how to remove the butt bad. It looks like it is all one molded piece to me. I did not want to force anything, so I just gave up.
Any ideas?
Thank in advance.

nwo,
i'm not sure but i do NOT think the recoil buffer goes in the stock. i think it goes in the receiver behind the bolt spring. the factory buffer is there i believe.
to get better help ask "tankcommander",. he has a new H&K and is all up on the tech side.
i did not think it needed one myself and i always used mine with the retractable stock.
good luck and safe shooting

The butt plate snaps off. Just pry it loose and off it comes. Its clips grip the two tubes that show as holes in the buttstock. The Buffer Technologies piece does replace the factory buffer. The screw in the stock comes out HARD. It'll take a bit of grunting before you can loosen it...unless maybe it didn't get cranked down by HK's pet gorilla.
I installed one awhile back and noticed no difference between the factory and after-market buffers. The jury's still out whether I'll keep the Buffer Tech piece in the rifle or re-install the original.

NWO thats one part of the weapon I haven't looked at but I have found a few web sites which might give you more info. http://www.hk94.com/ and http://www.hkweaponsystems.com/cgi-bin/for.../ultimatebb.cgi (http://www.hkweaponsystems.com/cgi-bin/forums/ultimatebb.cgi)
My stock is not an HK stock but made by PTR no pin holder holes.

Thank you guys, I appreciate the input.
The butt plate on my stock really looks like it is all one piece molded with the rest of the stock. There is no where to insert any kind of 'pry' tool. I don't want to damage my stock at all, and I cant squeeze the stock to 'pop' the butt plate off. it's pretty solid.
The two screws that I was able to remove were in there VERY tight. SUBAT6 is right about HKs Pet Gorilla cranking those puppies down. There was a good amount of factory red 'loc tite' stuff on them too. Those two screws are no longer 'virgin' factory installed. :( Oh well. I put them back in and snugged them up. I dont think there is any need to put more 'loc-tite' stuff back in, do you?
I'll keep trying to figure out how to get to the rear screw. In the mean time, I'll just SHOOT my rifle.
Thank you TANK, SURBAT, and SWILL.

NWO if your still interested I took off my plastic stock to replace it with wood. The new stock came with all the hardware but I wanted to keep the metal parts with the same finish. The military stock came apart nicely. The PTR stock butt pad was cemented in I used a large screwdriver to get it off and found it did not have the 3rd screw, I didn't have to pop the cover off. Any way it wasn't that badly damaged and I'll be able to recement it and use it nearly as good as new. Why they had to glue it on I don't know. The front hand guard needed some attention to get a better fit as well. At least I won't melt my front hand guard.
