Hey guys, between Marlin, Savage and Remmington, who makes the best 17 HMR rifle and in what model? Please explain why?

For every post you're probably going to get a differing opinion, but I'd vote for the Savage. They've really built a reputation for having accurate rifles at decent prices. Good luck deciding!

Buy whatever you want. The rifle is only as good as the person behind it. I have a CZ452 American w/ a BZA Sweet .17 scope and Brookie's trigger kit.

Rifle-#300
Scope-$110
trigger kit-$14

I'm hitting quarters at 100 yards all day long.

The notorious Marlin. I know of two people who bought theirs at wallyworld if I remember right. We had to float the barrels and bed the actions to get them to hit consistanly. They reminded me of the mini14.

The Savage is a good one. I shot one this weekend. Remington I have not dealt with.

I did the trigger kit to get an 11oz trigger. I like a light trigger.

I guess Indyarms and I got two of the more perfect rifles - being Marlin - I also have the 17VS - no tricks done to it at all - I have a mag 44 scope on it and can shoot 1/2 to 3/4" size groups all day long at 100 yards off a bench rest. The trigger sucks - and I changed that pretty easy. So out of the box - I will still say the Marlin is "one" of the best. :D

Sorry for the size of the picture - 5 rounds at 100 yards for the Marlin

Maybe my friends happened to get rifles from a bad run. I've talked to other CZ owners and a couple of them had to float the barrels on theirs. The barrels touched the right side on the end of the stock.

In bolt-action rifles most of what I own is Remington. A few WWII relics are in the safe. The CZ is the first new bolt-action I've bought that is not a Remington.

One more thing. Whatever you decide to get, one thing is a must and that's a .17 boresnake. Here they're going for about $12.95 and they work great. I have 2, one for solvent and one to swab.

High five to you, Coyote! maybe we can start the "good Marlins" club??

LOL

Seriously, though... I agree.. maybe I wound up with a good one.. I am NOT complaining one bit.. mine shoots awesome! It is the SECOND most accurrate rifle I own... second only to my Savage .204 Ruger... all the rest are what I would call "plinking" guns, or shotguns... so....

I spent the extra $$ for th Ruger K77/17-vmbbz, and am really impressed with it. Look at my picture post's (Varmint Getter) in the gallery. After sighting in it grouped under a dime and the holes around the happy face was from killig gnats. Also the action is much smoother than that of the CZ. Is as smooth as any center fire bolt rifle.

Guess I got a good one. Mine's as slick as snot on a greasy door knob.

So I see it as this, there's good and bad from all manufacturers. We're at their mercy.
