Mine's gotta be Steven Curtis Chapman. He's written so many incredible songs...there's too many to count! There's lots of other excellent artists like Rich Mullins, Newsboys, The Katinas, Scott Krippayne...
So, what's yours?

Have you ever read any of Chapmans books? My favorite is "A Look at Life from a Deer Stand". My next pick would be "What a Hunter takes Home".. Good stuff...written by a deer huntin Christian, as a wittness to deer hunters. ;)
I really like the Massat Family band, and they are personnal friends of mine. Ken Massat is one of the finest men I know. If you dont know who they are you will. They are just too good to remain unknown.

After reading those books, I noticed more of His (Christ's) work from a tree stand than ever before. And been able to relate it to life, and lifes problems....But then again...you know how easy it is for us Christians be impressed upon and controled. ;)
I jest !!

It's called the sovereignty of God! ;)

Well, it's good to know there's a hunter in the family. :)
Larry Norman, Third Day, and the Crabb Family. If I had to pick the most favorite then Larry wins! I know I am dating my self but his music really set the tone for today's Christian music. His health is not so well at this time, he needs our prayer and financial support. Many of the Christian artists today use his music to share the word.

Just to clarify, there is no relation to Stephen Curtis Chapman and Steve and Annie Chapman. Steve and Annie Chapman are great champions of marriage and the home. Stephen Curtis Chapman is perhaps the greatest Christian songwriter of all time. The only one that I think comes close to SCC is Chris Rice.

Okay call me a softy, but Selah takes the cake for me. To me they sing hymns and praise and worship with more heart and real felt meaning then any I have heard except maybe Third Day and a few unknowns from One Day rallies. Mathew Ward is awesome too!! But Selah is more my style I suppose. I heard them perform "It is well" and "How Great Thou Art" and I was hooked. But Third Day's "Love Song" and "Show me Your Glory" is just as moving.

I also extremely enjoy Mark Schultz. As a youth pastor, I can appreciate his career a lot, because he started out as a youth pastor in a church in Nashville, TN. His song "Letters from War" brings a tear to the eye everytime I hear it. I got a chance to see him in concert and talk to him briefly, and he is really a great guy. He has a book called "Stories behind the Songs" that give insight to the stories that have fostered such hits like "He's my son", "Back in His Arms", and many others.
I'm with you guys on the pop Christian artist, 3rd Day, Michael W Smith, Mark Schultz, Cris Rice, SCC, Big Daddy Weave, Sela and many more. What station do you listen to, I listen to KLRC live (http://www.klrc.com/on_air/listen_live.asp)

Can't forget bluegrass! Howzabout Jimmy Martin, Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe and Bill Evans? They are plenty christian, and good too. Ain't nothin' quite as divine as a 4-piece bluegrass band. :D

darjeeling,
my wifes youngest sister took mandolin lessons from bill monroe at his request in the late 70's early 80's. she gave it all up for husband and children. her son just placed very high in the national NASA sponsored high school robotics competition. another engineer is on the way.

Awesome! I'd wish I had that form of luck (well, except I'm a banjo player, and Monroe concequently wouldn't be on the top of my list). He's one hell of a mandolin player though. I should've practiced today. Some Clinch Mountian Backstep would have been lots of fun.
My all time favorite would be Twila Paris. Been listening to her for about 25 years. I like the old groups best so yes Larry Norman is important being the creator of Christian Rock.

Any other Christians here not like Christian music at all? I know I certainly don't

Yeah, pretty much. The only christian music I like is bluegrass. Bluegrass isn't christian music per-se, but nearly all the artists are pretty hard-core christians and it shows in most of the music. But it ain't "I love you god" light rock (Light rock always ****ed me off ) . Its pretty hard to dislike bluegrass, there is so much musical talent there and it is 100% american too. Listen to "Hard Times" and you'll be a convert.

I like most styles of music except opera, country, rap, pop, and christian genre.
Most "Christian music" is more about the message than the music; kinda like rap and pop. I listen to music for the MUSIC, and I don't usually hear the message the first 100 times.
Bluegrass is my latest favorite. It really jams and just happens to carry a positive message (most of the time).
There are a few really creative Christian genre bands though. King's X is one that comes to mind.
I play piano, guitar, bass, and drums -- for a living even, so i have particular tastes too!
