I'm needing a little help in deciding on a new FAL. I was looking at a new DSA today and really liked it,but I need some input from someone that knows about FALs better than me. Any info would be helpful.

Thanks........sd550

DSA is a very high quality rifle and they stand behind their product.

I know this contradicts all that I read, BUT.......
I have a shooting buddy that bought one last year. It was a beautiful weapon.
He has had feed issues (factory mags), extractor issues and it required numerous gas adjustments for different ammo. He called DSA and they suggested replacing springs, etc. This weapon had less than 300 rounds through it. He traded it in on a Springfield socom last week. I would be interested to hear if anyone else experienced similar problems. :usa:

My DSA STG58 parts kit was top notch. It was practically new. After installing it on my Century Arms imported Imbel reciever and adjusting the gas-piston, it has shot several hundred rounds accurately and reliably.

I've also purchased their free-float aluminum handguard(also good quality, but missing a bolt which they promptly overnighted to me) and their adjustable palm-rest grip. Avoid the adjustable version, the quality is lousy. The palm rest is unstable and has cracked in 2 places after about a year of use. I ended up putting the STG58 grip back on. Their customer service is great, though, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Depending on what you want to spend, I would go with a FAL. I have an old Springfield M1A and from what I understand, their new brothers are not as well made as the older ones, less GI parts. I have two FALS, a factory Argentine and a DSA receiver on a G1 kit. Goto FALFiles.com, find a local builder in your area. FAL kits are available again, and receivers are relatively inexpensive. I have maybe $600 in my kit gun. It is a nice rifle. I think DSA makes a nice gun, their quality in machining is top notch. I dont think the original belgians have much over them. You could also look for a clean Springfield 4800, too (Brazilian import FAL).

I had the opposite problem, purchased a new SA M-1A and had all kinds of problems. Ended up trading it for a DSA SA-58 and have not had a single issue with it. I have fired over 2500 rds of assorted surplus from the dirtiest, rustiest, srrotiest mags you have ever seen, without ONE malfunction of ANY kind. IMHO the SA-58 is well worth the money, DSA's parts dept. is top notch as is their customer service. I bought their top cover picatinny rail and it was minus 2 screws. Two days later they were in my mailbox. Excellent service. I was so impressed I bought another one and am now thinking about a carbine.

I have nothing but good things to say about dsa 100% top notch company with great customer service... I've owned four and all have been flawless. I still own a sa-58 carbine and a build by cmp armory all dsa parts (stg) several thousand flawless rounds through both..a good build with quality parts will set you back 600-700 dollars and a new sa-58 around 1100-1500 dollars..... my only regret in life I wish I had kept all the fal builds 9 total and 4 dsa sa-58's (made for one hell of a show and tell at the range) :)

I had a DSA STG58 (factory built) that I amanged to crack the receiver on. They replaced it, but after that I lost faith in the firearm, and moved on to an M1A.

I, too, now have the SOCOM, and had minor problems with it (bad extractor, which is the most likely malfunction to have) which I easily remedied by replacing the extractor from my parts kit.
My SOCOM came with USGI: bolt (but with cast extractor), oprod, trigger group, and gas cyclinder.

Any rifle can malfunction, just be sure to buy one with a good factory warranty.
