Is it possible to create a new forum that has to do with survival and SHTF scenarios?

I'm actually contemplating just turning this into a firearms tech board ONLY. So that answer would be no.

The open Chit Chat and other areas tend to make this a combative place where people argue, and frankly it's not pretty.

I appreciate your asking, it's nothing personal with you. I'm looking at your request and asking myself "what kind of nonsense are the 10% going to do here that make it hell for the 90%", and I don't like what I see.

You should just ban the ones you have a problem with. Let me know if Im one and Ill hit the bricks. If you feel you need to prune the vine, PRUNE IT!! No sense in ruining it for everyone else, if you have "10%" makin hell for everone else.

Big'n, I think its a good idea. As you have shown me, there are boards that cover such things, it would just be nice to hang with folks we currently get along with.

Guys-

It would take me more than an hour a day to police the site. I don't have that time any more. The tech forums are well moderated and self policing. The issue with Chit Chat is that, by its nature, it is there for open discussion. It's impossible to write a simple set of rules that define what's acceptable and what is not.

I try to think of this place as my tavern. Problem is, I own the tavern but I don't work here every night (grin). If I were here every night, I'd kick the bums out and leave everyone else. But I'm not here enough to (a) police it at all and (B) I'm not here enough to accurately tell who is the bum and who isn't.

Imagine walking into a bar and hearing some jerk spouting off... that's what happens here. Turns out that maybe that guy isn't a jerk, its a one-time event. But the only thing I hear is that one event.

That's my dilemma. I don't want to kill the whole site. If someone wants to take over the site (and pay for it's hosting), I'll be happy to sell PerfectUnion.com domain name for a couple of bills, and turn over the entire site to them to run the way they see fit.

if you are getting complaints about "chit-chat" only; you have a host of responsible and respectful people which might consider it a privilege to help "police" the posts. if you were to deputize some of these folks they might help solve your problem. they could collectively vote on decisions of booting, banning and reprimands; send you the recommendation and it's your call.

Bill, I know your patience has been wearing thin with the Chit Chat forum. But I would sure like to see it stay.

Just to present a thought. There are some guys that come in with an off the wall opinion or rant. But sometimes, they have not had anything to balance their viewpoint. When they go off here and get jumped on or chastised, it may actually help them to reconsider their stance.

I know just from my own experience here, that my opinion has changed after someone brought a different viewpoint out. We can't learn to get along with our brothers if we don't have the chance to mingle with them and learn to respect and listen to different points of view. Just because it isn't our belief doesn't make it wrong. We all need to learn to respect each other.

That's my plea. Sword, Swill, BUO,Dorface could make a balanced group to jointly moderate or "police" the forum to keep some sense of respect and decorum, if you would see fit to give it a try rather than just remove it. It is your "bar" and you have the finest establishment on the block. I like it here and would dearly miss it. Thanks for all you have done here to provide this board and I apologize if we have behaved in an ungrateful manner. And as Sword said, if I am part of the 10% that bugs you let me know and I will be gone.

thanks, i know this forum is a monster by nature. it is also a difficult decision to choose deputies from strangers. whatever you decide, i recognize the fact it is "yours" to do as you see fit. no matter, i will still use the weapons forums for info and research.
