If you're tired of the rattling of the Mini's front sling swivel, this is an easy mod. any mini owner can do with a drill motor, and Dremel tool. You can remove the QD in seconds. It is quiet, fast, and reliable.
Uncle Mikes QD swivels are available at Wal-Mart, and every other place that sells gun related items. I chose the 1" which are most common.

You will need a 1/8" and a 9/64" drill bit. Even though cobalt is recommended for drilling stainless, I used a regular HS (high-speed) bit just to show it can be done.
1) Remove the Ruger swivel with a pair of pliers, or vice grips. If you want you can wrap the jaws with tape, to avoid scratching. This is incase you want to save it for something. I saved mine, but not sure why. I just like to save stuff just in case.
2) Lay Mini on a flat surface on a towel or piece of carpet. Hold Mini to keep it from moving (I used my big foot).
3) Chuck up the 1/8" bit. Drill straight into the Swivel's hole at about 150-200 RPM. Use oil, paraffin (I used Boelube). This will keep bit from burning up. Be careful not to drill into momma's kitchen floor or you will be in big trouble! :(
4) Chuck up the 9/64" bit, and open hole to final size.
5) Next we will use a Dremmel tool to grind down the gas block at the swivel attach hole from .375" to about .320". I used a dial caliper to measure, and checked progress with the swivel itself.
6) We are done, unless you want to dress it up with a finer stone sandpaper etc. If you have a Blued Mini. Wal-Mart also has Cold-Blue to touch up your gas block.
The whole thing took me about 10 Min. It looks good!

I want to thank you for this lesson! I did this in about 10 minutes. It is a breeze. And it is a worthwhile modification. Much simpler than having to take off the sling and figuring out how to put it back on every time you field strip the gun. Thanks again.
