Decided to use the G.I Springfeild I bought this past spring to qualify for my Utah Concealed Permit. I have had zero failures with it (500 rounds) so I thought it might be fine for the test. Did it ever shoot great! All those others were using Glocks and EEA's and were impressed by the function, speed, and accuracy of my $399 pistol. I'm no Rob Leatham but that pistol shot the qualifier with points to spare. 43 rounds and no problems. :2guns:

Congrats gossman,

You and I got our Springfield 1911's about the same time. I have thoroughly enjoyed mine and have not had a single problem yet. Hopefully, my backassward state gets CC pushed through this coming year and then I'll be using mine to qualify.

Looking to get a Springfield GI Spec myself- found one for a decent price (Best around the SF Bay, at least that I've seen) for $450. It has an OD Green finish. Two questions- good gun out of the box? Second, what kind of finish is the OD Green? Is it just some kind of stainless plate, is it parkerized, what is it exactly? :)

I think the OD green is a type of parkerized finish. The pistol I have and shoot is stock out of the box. I have heard good things about the Rock Island too, and they are even less here, around $345 new. My springer G.I. has not failed me yet!

I love my Springfield Armory mil spec 1911-A1 also. After checking out all of the look-alikes, I love this gun. It is hard to improve upon a great weapon. I hope you come to enjoy yours as I do mine. Keep em' in the 10 ring!

I had the opprotunity to hold the Springfield OD G.I. WWII model and I liked the way it felt. I also noticed that it had the feedramp polished form the factory. That impressed me. Man, that safety was tight!! (Hard to flip on and off...but hey, it was new!)
