Heres the situation. I live in sunny Florida where its shorts and a t shirt most of the year(even as we speak). I carry a keltec 32. Its defanately not the best made gun I own or the most expensive but its the most convienent. I'm 6 foot tall and 160 pounds, so for me its pretty easy to conceal. But I want to get something with more stopping power. I don't want a revolver. I'm looking at Kahr's P and PM series in 40S&W. I think with an inside the waistband holster I could still conceal it. I was wondering if you guys have any input. Thanks

How about the Glock 36 sub-compact

advantages:
- very small - single stack 6+1
- lightweight
- reliable as hell
- .45 ACP

disadvantages:
- no external safety
- expensive

I was looking at that, and still am considering it. But the Kahrs are a little thinner than the glocks. I just have never owned one and was wondering about the reliabilty and craftsmanship. I keep flip floping back and forth. I'm looking more at the glock 27, but I do like the 36. I think next time I go to the range I'm going to rent a couple and see what I like.

I have the Kahr PM9. It is a pretty good pistol- shoots way better than anything that small with that short a barrel should, easy double taps, unexpectedly good accuracy (at any reasonable range), and as you have noticed, very slim. I have about 400 rounds through it with no malfunctions with many different ammos.

The only things I would mention are that the long pull on the trigger takes some getting used to, and the magazine springs are awfully stiff. I can also pretty much guarantee that you will HATE shooting it in .40, and to me if you don't shoot it, you can't count on it. I'm one of those who prefer a .45, but for the concealability, accuracy, and ease of shooting, I think this pistol is hard to beat.

Hope this helps.

Been there, done that. I sold my P32 and bought a Kahr9. Felt naked carring the 32. The KelTecs that I had in 9 and 40 are long gone too. All of the posts on the KelTec users board were discouraging although I never had any real problems with mine. I carry the KahrPM9 (really easy to carry and not too difficult to shoot, it is accurate) and my Glock 26, and Glock 23/40 are on my carry permit now. I never feel naked no matter which one I carry. Some people may say they don't care what they carry as long as it starts with a '4', but I think the 9's with good, well placed bullets should do the job. Now if I were LEO I would probably carry the PM9 as my deep b/u. So I guess I don't have absolute faith in the 9's.

I carry a Kahr K40 Covert in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. The Kahr is almost as light as my Walther PPK and concealment has never been an issue. I've probably put a thousand rounds through mine and never had a misfeed. The gun has the smoothest DAO trigger pull I've ever seen and I've been dead accurate with it out to 15 yards. I liked my first Kahr so much that I went out and got a second one just in case. I couldn't recommend it more highly. Get one--you'll find it money well spent.

Just for the record, the Keltec is not, nor was it ever intended to be a target / plinking / all purpose gun.

The Keltec was designed for one purpose only. It is a lightweight, no frills, save your ass pocket pistol. Probably not someones best "first handgun". It's just something to have to defend your life or property with at a moments notice.
My dad has one in 9mm and it have proved very effective and servicable for it's intended purpose. At first I teased him and joked around alot and called it cheap toy till I took it out and ran it through it's paces. Wow, I was impressed. His new wife has now confinscated it so now he's back to his Baretta 92F. Also has NAA .22 Mag revolver. Again, falls in the same category as Keltec. I mean if your going out to range trying to impress yourself on paper, get a Colt .22.

If you need a light pocket pistol for defense or backup with out spending stupid amounts of money, there are good options. But stay away from Raven/Bryco/Jennings crap like that. :2guns:

The salesman at my local gunshop actually just sung Kahr's praises to me when i was in looking for one small enough for my wife to handle. Only thing that scared me away wa the price though. Seems like they were asking almost $800 for the carry-size 9mm.

I have a Keltec P40 in .40 cal .. Nice little pistol and surprisingly accurate. Same size (and uses the same holster) as a Walther PPK and holds 9 rounds in the mag.

It's the littlest one (under my Glock 23 .40 cal)
