View Full Version : 1894 in 44
I just bought a 1894s marlin in 44 mag what can you guys tell me about the gun like if you have one and like or not and where can I find a rear sight for the best price and what do you reload for yours
For around $15.50 (plus shipping), Numrich will sell you the three OEM parts (base, elevator and leaf) that go on your 1894. Or you could look around for a Williams (about $32) or Lyman (around $75) peep rear sight. OR, you could write or call Marlin - they might even give you a replacement if you schmooze them a little ("This is the BEST rifle I've ever owned! I don't know what I'll do if I can't find a replacement sight!").
I haven't even fired it yet so can't say if it is the best.
I will clean it and order the sight today might even shoot it with out a sight to see how it kicks and works
Any tips will be helpfull this is my first Marlin

;) I've got one in the 1894s that i put a marble flip up peep on the rear tang like a winchester-had to adapt and fit, then i bought a cowboy, octagon barrel one and both are great shooters.Mine like the 240 grain jacketed bullets and 2400 powder!
Check your loading manuals first, unless you are shooting factory stuff. ;) :sniper:
for now factory to get some brass and have something to shoot untill the dies come and later bullet molds
got my rear sights and put them on they look sloppy the spring that fits in the sights fit tight and every thing fits well but it still looks not quiet right ,it may be
I shot it yesterday and like it a lot
now that the sight is on I will shoot it some more and if the sight isn't true then it will be replaced
any ideas for replacement sights
you know which of the sights that were listed before would you get or are there something that'snot listed
I've put Williams 5D Economy peep sights on all my Marlins (5 of them so far, including 1894's in .44 and .357). They enhance accuracy, don't add to bulk and weight, and are reasonably priced around $37 each (Lymans cost about $72, though I'll grab a used Lyman in a heartbeat if the price is right ).

;) For a little more money the "ghost ring" sights are a real good option for either fast or longer range shooting, they have 2 diff't peep aperatures, also I put a tangent sight on one of mine that has the graduations like an old 03-a3springfield rear sight. It is adjustable for ranges farther than I can use without a new pair of glasses. :sniper:

My 1894 had a Williams peep sight on it when I bought it. I love it. I was in the black at 100 yards with the second string.
A hologram or red dot sight works great on a short range lever action Marlin. I have a Picatinny rail scope mount for $18.00 PPd that works great for all kinds of scopes and red dots. Send me your email address for info & photos.
