View Full Version : Inexpensive 9mm
I was wondering if the knowledgeable shooters out there had a recommendation for an inexpensive 9mm pistol. Our church shooting club goes out pretty routinely, and we always try to bring non-shooters out with us. I have a CZ-75 that I shoot regularly, but I am looking for something inexpensive to take with me when I go that I can loan out and still be able to shoot my gun. As it was today, I shot a total of 8 rounds in the 90 minutes I was at the range since other people were shooting my two guns and I was playing range safety with the teens that were there.
Any ideas on a relatively inexpensive, yet reliable 9mm handgun I can get for these types of occasions? I've seen the Kel-Tec's and Hi-Point's, but don't know much about either company, and hence am reluctant to shell out any money on brands that I'm not familiar with.
Thanks for your advice,
-HK-

pleeeeease stay away from the hi-points...you might just want to check the pawn shops and quick quater/dandy dimes for a decent used peice...the kel-tecs might be ok,i have no idea about them.

Hi-point are the most inexpensive pistol out on the market now, and you take your chances, however the carbine is a great plinker. The Kel-tec is great but small and for someone who has never shot before it may not be the right gun. you can try going to a gun store and get police trade-insor look for the Bersa or Star lines of 9mm. Now back to the Hi-point the 9mm pistols they have, I have heard both good and bad, so it depends on what you luck out with.

If you shop around you can find CZ's for around $325, thats not bad for a "cheap" 9mm, other than that I have no idea.
ruger p series. good cheap 9mm. i have a p89 and they are quite common and popular.

Well its obvious that not everyone shuts their brains off on the weekend. Ruger P is a great choice, you can find some really cheap used ones too.
Being as how you are already acquainted with the CZ why not the Witness. Any of the police department trade-ins that may be available would also be a good choice except for a few exceptions they are carried a lot but shot very little.
All time cheapie champ? It'd have to be the Star Model BM. Right now they're going for $150.00 +/- wholesale. For that you get all steel construction (no cast junk here) in a package the size of a Colt Officers model. If the CZ was ever in the shop (for upgrades/mods of course!) you could even carry it! Reliability has been 100% with all of my Star PD/BM/BKM's over the years.

Yea for cheap, I would say a Ruger is very hard to beat, I will gladly take a Ruger over a Sig any day, and twice on Sunday!

I have a HiPoint 45 and a buddy has a HiPoint 9mm, we have NEVER had a problem with eithor. Bash them all you want but they shoot good and are dirt cheap.
I'm not saying its the perfect gun, but I've never had a single error with my .45 and the 9mm is the same way.
and HiPoints customer service is outstanding, my buddy had a mag that didn't really like to feed (our only problem EVER) and when he called HiPoint they said send it in, then sent him 2 new mags, no questions no shipping nothing. and i've read lots of other places that they have done that for other people.
so i would say get a HiPoint 9mm, no one is going to hurt the gun and even if it gets droped and beat up it isn't like your glock go all sratched up.
just my $0.02.

The new Smith & Wesson Enhanced Sigma series are good pistols. Model is 9VE I believe. I have one and it has never failed to fire, eject....it has never failed period come to think of it. It has hung with every Glock that dares to challenge it!

You can find CZ's cheap at pawn shops and gun shows. A local pawn shop near me has a 75BD with the box and exc condition asking 350. Keltec's are good guns, I own a keltec 32, but they are not for first time shooters. Even their 9mm takes some getting used to.
I'll suggest the Ruger P series again. It's my first handgun ever shooting and I love it.
