I found a good deal on a Marlin 336 Spikehorn. Its a 30/30 with a pistol grip stock, and a 16 inch barrel. I just know it would look and work better, with an 1894 stock without the pistol grip. Problem seems to be that Marlin won't sell the trigger plate, and its a "factory only" item. Finding the stock, and a straight lever is fairly easy.
Has anyone here had any success with a stock swap like this?

I love the look of the straight stock over a pistol grip. Owned both and saw no practical difference unless one was on horseback, then the straight would be easier. Looks like there ways to exchange now and recoup the some of the cost on ebay with the old stock.

The lower tang (trigger guard plate) would have to be altered to accept a straight stock and lever, as Marlin does not sell this restricted part. Marlin will do the conversion (for a fee) if you send the rifle to them.
