In the Mini-14 forum they are talking about what rifle they would choose in a SHTF situation.Does anyone have a pistol in mind that they would carry in that type situation? :2guns:

my 1911 hands down. rock solid, easy to find parts for, easy to find ammo for and has knockdown power with out the need for some fancy round. :2guns:

If I had a 1911 that's be mine but I like the Ruger P-89 because it can be misused and abused put away hot and dirty - and it'll fire every round you throw in it.

Probably my HK USP 40. It's got great knockdown power but it's not widely used. The ammo should be relatively easy to acquire.

On the other hand my Beretta 92FS is the sidearm of the military, has really easy to find ammo, I have spare parts, and I have way more magazines. It's just that the 9mm is relatively anemic ballistically.

Yeah, and everyone I know in the military hates the Beretta. Too many parts, open barrel that jams if it gets near dirt or sand. But, I will go with you 1911 guys; those are great and battle proven for the past, what 70 years? Thinking about gunkoting my stainless. Any thoughts?

I haven't fired too many rounds through my Beretta but before I bought this one I fired numerous rounds through various Government Berettas and as long as they were maintained (the only failures were during inspection prior to range time) they worked fine. Better than the M16 for sure.

But I'm not worried, my brother is a trained Beretta armorer. I've got spare parts, complete armorers manuals, as well as the military manual, and the civilian manual. But to be honest, even here in the desert I doubt I'll have a problem.

Definitly would be my Glock 19. Rock solid reliability, very accurate and low recoil so my wife isnt scared to shoot it should she have to.

Pardon the sacrilege this being a semi-auto forum..but b/c its my back up...
2nd place would be Taurus 617, but only for up close and personal. Kicks like a mule so my wife wont shoot it. hehe she shot it once and promptly handed it back :D

My S&W M58 .41 Magnum M&P...
Or the 1911 .45 or the Mk IV Series 70 Colt .45...
Or the Taurus M415 .41 Mag bulldog...
Or the S&W 1917 .45 ACP...
Or the Taurus M431 .44 Special bulldog...
Or the High-power 9mm...
Or the S&W M28 .357...
Or the S&W M57 .41 Mag...
Or the Kel Tec P11 9mm...

By the time I figure out which handgun to take, the emergency will probably have passed. If I'm in a hurry, I'll grab whatever's loaded.

Would really depend on how bad SHTF I think. My number one choice for a handgun would be a S&W K-frame 22rf. Does that surprise anyone? Think about it. Easy portability for lots of ammo, availability of ammo (beg, borrow, steal), accurate for small game to eat, virtually indestuctable, no magazines to lose and can be used for personal protection as a last resort.

Walther PPK in .380, or a 1911. With the PPK, I have something like 1.5-2" groups at 25yds, and this goes up to 3" if all rounds are emptied in 2 seconds. I know the stopping power of the 9x17mm is not great, but with that kinda accuracy and concealability, 95 grain JHP's will do great. Plus, the barrel doesnt recriprocate, so the only noticably moving parts in this gun are the hammer, slide and spring. It makes shooting childs play.

The 1911 also, because its rugged, powerful, accurate, etc.

A charter arms undercover would work fine for me too, but its a wheelgun.

.22 buckmark, lots of ammo, easy to pack, can be used in a suvival mode. a sa pistol tho would most likey a better choice simply for the reliabilty and simplicity of the action.

If I could get my wife to carry the ammo, I'd take a 1911. Otherwise, I'd take my Browning HP with some 17 rd South African mags. In 30 yrs, it's never failed to function with ball ammo and it's more familiar to me than any other gun I own. If I could take a second handgun, I'd probably take a Ruger Mk II. javascript:emoticon('%3C_%3C')

Currently I posess two handguns dedicated for self defense. At home I have a Glock 21 .45ACP loaded w/ a 13 rd mag & 1 in the chamber plus 2 spare 13 rd mags. I have a Glock 23 .40S&W (13+1) for concealed carry plus 2 spare 13 rd mags which are also carried along with it. For severe situations I combine the 23 with concealable Class IIIA body armor. I'm currently upgrading the 21 with a Streamlight M-6 light/laser and the 23 with a LaserMax spring assembly. These two items are being incorporated in for psychological reasons to reduce the risk of bloodshed. I figure that, if threatened, I'll put the little red dot right between my assailant's eyes and then ask him candidly if he wants to continue. Most people back down when their life flashes in front of their eyes.

id have to say my HK USP 40 also. i am left handed and it is Variant 4 so that makes me love it a little more and favor it more than another gun. having the pieces where they work better for me scores huge points. plus you cant go wrong with the USP, they destroy durability tests they get run through. just my 2 cents

I'd take my Ruger P90, but I'd grab any damned thing I could get my hands on in a SHTF scenario.

It would be hard to choose - 9mm has capacity, .40 has good power, .45 is awesome with FMJs or JHPs, .38s and .357s are effective and are very adaptable, and .22s are (generally) damned accurate. As long as the gun is accurate (enough) and reliable (no leeway here), it would be great.

As an example, I use my P90 more than any other pistol I have access to, but my mother has an older 5-shot .38 Special snubbie that will outshoot my Ruger when loaded with 110 or 125gr bullets. I prefer the power of the .45, but a hit with a good .38 JHP beats the hell out of a miss with a .45ACP.

Well, that's my rant. Whatever you grab, make sure you can hit your target with it.
