View Full Version : Glock 23 opinions?
I'm wanting to pick up a med frame semi auto for CCW carry, vehicle carry, lightweight camp sidearm to augment the heavier and usually hanging over the back of the chair or on the cot 44 mag. I'm basically looking for a personal defense sidearm.
I've been a Sig fan for years, since my first 226 (no longer with me) :( , and since I carried a 228 concealed in the Army for 3 years. Love them, not a better defensive sidearm in my opinion. But, pricy, and a little more than I want to spend now. Also a bit heavier and bulkier than the 23.
While looking over Sigs tonight, I picked up a Glock 23. Nice, and I can get one for $240 less than I can get the Sig. I had a Glock 22 back in 1992, but was forced to sell. That gun just plain spooked me as a "house" gun or for an unholstered carry gun, due to it's trigger and lack of safety. That short trigger pull was spooky to me.
Has anyone ever found this to be a safety problem? Unintentional discharges? I used to never carry a round in the chamber on the glock unless it was holstered. What is the poundage on the Glock triggers now?
Thoughts on this particular sidearm?

Hi,
I am a Glock NUT! I have a Model 21 the .45 caliber. I have never had a accedental discharge with it. I have to be CAREFUL using it not to get my finger near the trigger. I have a 3 1/2 pound trigger on mine and love it. I would love to have a good Glock 23 in .40S&W with a .357 SIG barrel with the same trigger on it. My dad just bought himself a Glock 19 in 9mm its a good pistol. He wanted a Glock 23 but couldn't find one at the right price. I will have one one day very soon.
The best thing for a Glock is a good Fobus holster. They protect the trigger gaurd and keep you from gettin on the trigger accedentally. I use thier Paddle Model for my pistol it rocks. It has good retention but yet I just used it to out draw a local police officer at a local steel shooting competition :D As far as I know the factory makes 3.5 pound triggers as an add on but all standard factory Models except thier Models 34 and 35 come with 5.5 pound triggers. You can get New York Triggers with 8 and 13 pound pulls (to much for me) that may work for you if you want the pistol out without a holster.
Well need to run, tell me if I can help you any more or didn't answer all of your questions. I am with you on having both a .44 and a .40 Glock.

I love my Glock 23. There are actually 3 safeties at work in the Glock, which is more than a revolver. I have tritium sights, 3.5 pound connector, stainless guide rod, and a good DuraCoat finish. I use both a Fobus holster, and a Clip-Draw IWB "clip" to carry. Excellent firearm! ;)

I always say that the real safety is between your ears. If you practice with the gun, get a holster that covers the trigger, be sure that the holster is clear of your shirt tail, etc before you holster it, , and never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot..... no problems. This is good sense and should be sub conscious reactions. I've carried cocked and locked 1911's and BHP 35's. Glocks , Kahr PM9's. I now just carry the Kahr and Glocks, they are enough alike in admistrative functions that I don't have to think about it: S/A, S/A double action, manual safety or no safety. No gun is any safer than the operator, becaue stupidity can override any system. And...... I truly believe that ther is no more reliable gun than Glocks. You shouldn't carry anything that you have any questions about, you have to be comfortable and confient in your choice. For me its Glock and Kahr. Jim

The gun wont fire if your finger is not on the trigger. WILL NOT. You just have to practice gun safety and you wont have a NEGLIGENT discharge.

Used to have a G23, do have a G21. The 23 is pretty loud and it cycles real fast, very 'snappy' as compared with the 21. Not a problem with it. Never an ND with either model but I always have the safety in my head engaged. The factory triggers are running at between 4.5 and 5.5 lbs. Perfect for a carry piece. Real short trigger reset, nice once you get used to it.

Accurate, too
That's 26 rounds into a 3" bull at 10 yards

Nice group BigUgly!
DaveR, watch out for reloads. Ever heard of K-booms? Kind of a silly name IMO, but it's a very serious problem with some Glocks. Apparently, the Glock chamber doesn't fully support the bottom of the cartridge (intended to increase reliability). If you're shooting factory new ammo, you're fine. But if you're shooting reloads, there's a possibility that the weakened case could rupture and cause a massive k-boom. If you google the term "Glock k-boom", you can find a bunch of info. Here's a link to the first sight that comes up.
Here's the link: K-boom (http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/g35-40kb.html)
BTW, I heard this is only a problem with Glocks chambered for the hotter cartridges, namely the .40 S&W.

I've only just strated hearing about that (KB) I don't shoot reloads but I do shoot ALOT so that has me concerned. I may re-barrel mine with a Barstow barrel ... I heard that fixes the problem

Ever think about the XD. I was thinking of getting a glock, but wound up getting an XD. I used to have a G22, but I like the XD better. The grip is more ergonomic, it has a grip safety, and I think it just plain looks a lot better. Plus, those Kb's are enough to keep me away from a glock for a while. I've been reading up on those lately, and I saw pics.
