For home defense, what brands do you folks like most?

I like Remington's 124 grain Golden Saber in the +P factory load. :2guns:

I use the Remington 100 round value pack jacketed hollow point. It's cheap, it's a hollow point, and I can train with it without going broke(.r.). I haven't killed anything with it but it will sure rip up an empty propane tank!

I use StarFire 124gr.

Havent shot any living thing with it, but it sure will do a number on a watermelon :D

Also test fired it into water and that sucker almost tripled in diameter. I have faith it would more than get the job done.

I also use the Winchester Silver tips 147gr in my backup clips and they expand well too.

Winchester one the left, StarFire on the right.

All of these meet or exceed FBI standards for penetration (12"+) and expand well in bare and clothed calibrated gelatin.

9mm
Federal Tactical 124 gr JHP
Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P JHP
Winchester Ranger 127 gr +P+ JHP
Federal Tactical 135 gr +P JHP
Winchester Ranger 147 gr JHP
Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP

Personally, I like the Fed 124 gr JHPs. The 9x19 was designed around this weight bullet (reliability), and I see no need for +P or +P+ (more blast, flash and recoil) when I can get the same performance from a standard pressure load.

The Speer Gold Dots offer very good accuracy and reliable expansion over broader velocity ranges than most rounds. Many Personal Defence rounds only offer reliable expansion over a very limited velocity range so if you change from a full size to a mini in the same caliber you might just find that you did not get the performance you bought.
