Beautiful morning at the 100 yard line today. Shot 3 rounds of 405 gr Remington corelock (the most dangerous mushroom in the woods) at 100 yards. Used a 2x2 black square for the bullseye. Bad idea, I could barely see it but went with what I had. shots low (3")and a 12" to the right. No hammer or punch to drift rear sight over but a El Marko felt pen and a stapler does work. OOOpps, too far, drive it back and presto-dead on with the next three shots but still low. Moved the slide a little bit, OOopps, too high, OOoopps too low, yep right on now. This was all from a bench rest and sand bags. Recoil wasn't anything, shotguns are much worse. The rifle is a keeper. Now, maybe some ghost rings and such....... :cannon:
Looks like I am ready for ELK!

gossman,
if i am correct, the rem. 405 is a trapdoor load (very mild). try federal 300gr or PMC 300gr. not harsh but stout. i use a recoil pad for my home loads. if you reload: barnes has some excellent .458 cal from 250 gr solids on up.

you have me all excited, now i have to get one. the price is outstanding.

good hunting.
