View Full Version : How PATRIOTIC are you?
My son is in the Army, and they have great equipment, but not always what they need. I am offering to collect money for our soldiers to provide care paks for them through Brigade Quartermasters with recognition for the membership of Perfect Union.
Now to show you what it is this link is the price and description of The Care Paks (http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/mc49.tam?mailcall=mailcall49) and their prices. The more you donate the bigger the package we can send (I will kick in, too!). I will tentatively plan to order these at the end of the month.
If you wish to donate, my PayPal link is HERE (https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=gundoc%40greatwestgunsmithing.com&item_name=gunsmithing&item_number=001&no_note=1¤cy_code=USD) for your use. Of course if you want to do something on your own or with your community please pass along the Brigade Quartermasters link to others.
What do you say, guys (and gals!)?

Great idea Doc! ( and hats off to your fine son.)
There is a businesswoman in our small town that has rallied the community with the same idea. She has two sons that have served and sent them and their units care packages. They have returned home now, but the project continues. People can donate items or cash. She has a list of things in her store that are preferred.
Our local Guard unit has been activated for the second time so there is a lot of support.
On our monthly stock up trip to Sam's club, my wife and I buy a case of jerky or beef sticks, gum, snacks, etc. to send over. My wife also bakes cookies to send. She packs them in popcorn and they make it over unbroken and fresh.
It really helps morale to have the folks back home remembering them on an ongoing basis. Enclosing letters in the packages helps keep them connected.
We all need to do our part to support these guys and gals that are serving their country.
Thank you Gundoc for your efforts!

On behalf of America's sons and daughters I thank you for your efforts in boosting their morale. Also, a lot of folks may not know that most major airports have some form of USO room where a tired soldier can sleep and grab a bite to eat between flights. We forget the sacrifices and hardships our soldiers endure sometimes. One of my favorite phrases is:
If you can read this thank a teacher, if it's in English thank a soldier.
I also give a huge discount (basically free labor and my price on parts) to LEO's and military personnel. It's just my small thanks for the freedoms and safety that I enjoy everyday. If you see these men and women, why not stop and thank them, shake their hand and let them know you appreciate them. Too many people have an Us and Them mentality and that's wrong!
I'm getting off my soapbox now and back to work.

Gundoc...let me say "Thank you" for your support and dedication to military members; I got a "warm fuzzy" reading your last post. Your son and I are in a unique profession, of which I am very proud, and we volunteered to do what we do. It takes a special kind of person to remain a member of the largest military force in the world. At times it seems as though we, military members, go un-noticed by those that remain free because of warfighters like us. But when those few people stop to thank us for what we do, that is all the motivation, support, pride and thanks we need to keep us charged and proud of our service. I commend your son and his comrads for their work; they are likely closer to the action than most. Whether at home station or accross the big pond, the work we do keeps this country free, including our right to bear arms. Again, thanks to you and folks like you for maintaining pride and dignity in those who serve.

Count me in! :usa:
Our church does something like this each year. Each member can get a box with $50 worth of stuff that we have been told the Marines (that's who we support) really need on a daily basis, plus a few little luxuries that are hard to get ahold of over there. We also usually write some letters and stick in the box, just saying stuff like what we do, how much we appreciate what they're doing, and the fact that we're keeping them in our prayers (and we actually do, that's not just small talk). Though most of them are too busy to write back to us, a few have, and I'm amazed how much they seem to appreciate that little box of stuff. Like Mark said, I think it just encourages them to know that someone is thinking of them and appreciating what they do.
Glad you're doing this!
My Daughter is in Iraq right now with the 10th Mountain Division and I send boxes every week to her and her unit. I send magazines, DVD's, phone cards, feminine things that the PX doesn't carry, things like that. It makes a huge diference to our troops.

Wow, so you have two kids in the service. Are they BOTH in IRAQ, or just your daughter right now?
Just my daughter is in Iraq. My son is in DC with the Old Guard serving Arlington and some of the road shows like the Spirit of America where he actually played Lewis Merriwhether in a few shows and Capt. Caleb Lawson in a few others. I have a DVD that was produced by the Army of one of his shows and it is awesome. My daughter is in Baghdad serving as an armorer and medic. Luckily she is in a position to call and email a few times a week, so I get to hear from her and set my mind at ease. Service to our Country is a family tradition going way back - Korea, 'Nam, Grenada, Joint Task Force Cape Horn of Africa, Afganistan and Iraq.
Female things are greatly appreciated, as the PX's cater primarily to the male serviceperson. The only 2 prohibited items are chocolate and pornography. Everything else is pretty much OK, it just takes time to get there. Thanks for supporting out troops!
