Hi everyone,
Just found the site and WOW!!! Just what I needed.
Been a mini guy since the 70's and have owned one since 90.
It is a standard model preban. I put a scope on it and it is a scope eater.
I think I am on the 4th or 5th scope. Broken crosshairs, loose stuff inside, etc. Thank goodness for lifetime warranties, except the $10 shipping fees are adding up. I didn't know what was going on with this mini until now.
The question is. What is a recoil buffer? How do I make one? Where does it fit on the rifle? Is it easy to do? Can I buy a drop in one somewhere? From the way it sounds my scope returning days could be over.
Thanks for any help.
Spalding.

Welcome to the forum spalding. It mounts between the receiver, and slide rod assy. There are drop ins Midway, brownells, Mike knifong's is a lot cheaper or you can make your own from neaupreme rubber or vacuum cleaner belt. It absorbes some of the shock between the receiver where the slide rod strikes it. Here is another current thread to ref. Also tons of info using the search options.

Another item that will reduce the amount receiver shock is installing a smaller gas port bushing. This allows a smaller amount of gas to blow the slide rod rearward into the receiver. I have both on my mini. a 3 pc Gas port bushing kit is avaliable from Mike Knifong, and ASI. See Mini links sticky under gun smiths. Enter bushing as a key word using the search options, select any date. Many posts will come up on that subject.
wow, the mini kills scopes?
what kind of scope(s) was that?

2 tascos, 2 BSA's and a simmons. (I know, I'm cheap)

2 Trashco's, 2 B(arf)S(lop)A(stigmtisum)'s, and a sh**mans...I think I see the basic problem right there. Those things fail on 10-22's, let alone somthing with a little recoil.
I know how the budget minded feel, I have a BSA now that has handled over 2000 rnds and still going, with a buffer and smaller gas port bushing.

I had a Tasco on my 30-06 for about 14 years and a couple of thousand or so rounds, it always shot true (sub MOA)
Is the 14 year old Tasco the same quality as the newer, cheaper ones? have always thought the older ones were still made in the states or in japan.....

I really don't know ... the scope was becoming less clear but the cross hairs were dead on!
You could try a scope designed for spring piston airguns. The internals have extra support to withstand the double snap that will break most firearm scopes.

;) Just spend your money wisely and buy an american made leupold or burris-the reliability and longevity speak for the quality of these scopes.Besides- in a SHTF type of situation these scopes will keep working! <_< :sniper:

You may also consider your idea of the buffer- less felt recoil and noise from the action. Go Here (http://www.gunaccessories.com/Mini1430/index.asp) - they have tons of Mini accessories and the drop-in buffer is about $20 and will also "extend the service life of your weapon". G'luck.
BTW- great forum guys! HUGE informational resource and it made up my mind on purchasing one...should come in later this week! :ar15:
