I learned something about my stock 5 rd mags today while on a short trip to the range, I have one that shoot really well almost like a bolt action and the other shoots a shotgun pattern. I shot both with the same load and same batch of reloads. I shot the good mag twice just to make sure and the accuracy was there. I post a picture later of the 2 groups with the good mag. I check the other mag out for the differences and try to improve its performance. I think I read that someone else had this trouble with their mags.

if it was soft-tip ammo, can the tip be deformed when going from the mag into the chamber ??

 I mentioned this before about the mags but all I got was disbelief. Each magazine has different spring pressure on the bottom of the bolt causing all kinds of differences in lockup, harmonics, and friction in the operation of the action.M-14 match shooters in the military have known of this situation for decades. For a more pronounced simulation of magazine problems and functioning just take a look at a 1911 match pistol sometime, anyone that has a gold cup or equal knows how finicky that they can be-because the gun and ammo and mag are all tuned to each other. <_< :sniper: :sniper:

I handload for my mini and I was using the same loads for both mags, I shot the good one twice to be sure, here is the target I got a 100 yrs.
The first group is on the bottom of the page and the second it closer to the center. I forgot to put 5 rds in for the second group, both groups with the same mag. The difference in the mags was night and day, other one scattered all over the page and frustrated the crap out of me!! :D

As an experiment, swap springs. If the bad mag becomes the better mag, then order a new spring. A dirty chamber will cause a larger difference, than a clean one as the stripping pressure exerted by the mag spring will effect how the bullet is seated in the chamber. Also an old weak slide rod spring could cause a larger diff.

I shot again today with the mag I was getting the great groups with but did not get great groups. I have notice I can avarage about 15 rds with excellent groups using the Tetra bore conditioner after a good cleaning. I got the cleaning kit out again with my new one piece graphite brass tip clean rod and new brass cleaning bristle brush, really clean now!! I conditioned the bore and will try for excellent groups tomorrow. I go out during my lunch hour and usually shoot 3 targets.

tri70, I learned that my mini, really didn't like to be cleaned really good. It would take about 20 rounds for it to settle down, and start turning in good groups. I now clean it very lightly(a few passes with a patch Bore Snake actually) and it's dead on,till the next shooting session. My barrel is hand lapped, and I hardly get any copper fouling. We shoot steel plate matches almost every Sunday(informal) and it's not unusal to put 200 rounds thru the gun,in a afternoon. After around 100 rounds I use the Bore Snake, with a little solvent, give it a couple passes thru, and back to shooting. I'm not sure if all mini's are like this, but it works for mine. Ron Dog

I think the spring pressure was causing the problems so I loaded my second mag up and let set for a week. I went out to the range yesterday and it shot great.
