Has anyone tried this powder for reloading for there mini, Reloader 10x and does anyone know the burning rate in comparision to IMR4198. I know, I plan to get a new reloading manual today but just thought I would check with the group to get the good and bad of it.

-thanks tri

IMR 4198 is a faster burning powder than RX 10. I haven't used either. I've had good results with RX-7, and H322.

Like ammo in the mini, your results may vary.

I did go to the Alliant web site to get info on the 10x powder and they had several recipes for the 223 and various bullet weights Alliant 223 recipes (http://recipes.alliantpowder.com/rg.taf?_function=centerfire&step=1) it burns slower than Reloader 7 a little. The vendor has good info on all there powders. This is new and alot of the burn rate list I saw did not list the 10x but the Alliant site help shed light on.

I start with the bullet, then powder to match. Some times a perfect recipe won't shoot worth a hoot in my mini. You just have to experiment.

Last night in searching for an ans to your question, I was reminded that not all powder burn rate charts are the same. So I usually average this info.

I bought a new Lyman reloading manual last night and they did not list the 10x powder but they also had a Nosler manual that did not list either. I chose the Lyman because it was more comprehensive. The Alliant web page gave me a good idea of the burning rate with the load recipes. It burns slower that 7x so I can work loads around 20gr - 22gr without much worry on chamber pressure with the 40 and 50 gr bullets. Maybe this fall the manuals with have all the latest and greatest updates on powders, bullets and calibers. I keep everyone posted on my opions of the 10x loads.

keep it on the mark, anything less is a sin

Went to the range yesterday and had real good luck with the new powder Reloader 10x. I got good groups with both my 40 and 50 gr v-max average 1 1/2'', I would post picture is my computer at home was working. I used 23 grs of 10x for both loads which worked great as a medium charge. My cases were not as hot coming out of the chamber like with the IMR 4198, less pressure. I think I'll use this powder over the 4198 to extend case life and less trimming.

-maybe I can try again today, I really liked my groups

I've never tried the 10x. My best results have come from Varget and 2520 powders with Sierra 53 HP's and Rem 7 1/2's. I can't get the Sierra 60 gr. HP's to do as well as the 53's.

I did use Tetra bore conditioner after I cleaned my mini, then went to the range for this session. I shot 40 and 50 gr v-max first then 60 gr v-max, I think the bore conditioner had alot to do with the grouping for the 60 gr. Usually I do better with the 40 and 50 gr bullets. I'll go back today with a new load of 60 gr with the 10x loads and Seirra 60HP, the previous group was loaded with IMR 4198. I have a Lee Progressive press that meters the 4198 powders fairly well, the 10x is a smaller tubular cut that will meter better. I would suggest to anyone to try a bore conditioner or moly lube for their pet loads. This would be a cheaper alternative to shooting moly coated bullets if it stays consistant.

I hand lapped my barrel, and haven't had any copper,or fouling problems since. I used to shoot moly bullets, but after reading the moisture problems from using it,I now stay away from it Ron Dog :)

Tri, it isn't in the Hornaday, or Serria either. It could be a newer powder. So the Bullet Manufactures haven't published data yet. Go to the Alliant web site for recommended loads. The 10x is there.

That was the only place I could find info on the powder 10x. I read about the powder on the website first and then bought some with the new manual. I needed to update my manual anyway because the one I have is 10yr old even though it did not have the new powder listed. I have worked some good loads with it and will get to post pics soon when I get my new Dell up and going. I does meter better than the IMR and Hogdon because it is cut smaller. I use a Lee 1000 Progressive press with a new powder messure that works well, I weigh every 3 rounds loaded and it keeps pretty close.
