I found something called an L1A1 at a local pawnshop. He will let me have it for $400.00. It's a .308 calibur. Anyone ever hear of these. It's Canadian. Is it any good and can you get mags for it. It looks like a military or knockoff. Has a built in (or looks like, may come off) compensator. Strange left handed bolt pull. Any help?

An L1A1 is not Canadian, it is a british made FN-FAL. On this site there are a number of people who are more familiar than I with it. However if you do need more info try www.falfiles.com (http://www.falfiles.com) Anything and everything you need to know about this rifle is there. I don't have a FAL, I went with the CETME.

The L1A1 is of course an inch-pattern FAL.

Except for some minor cosmetic differences, the countries of the British persuasion (England, Canada, Australia, etc.) used the same rifle.

England/Australia- L1A1 (Also New Zealand)
Canada- C1A1
South Africa(?)- R1A1

Just about everyone else used metric. The U.S. tested an inch-pattern FAL when they were looking for a replacement for the M1.

thats probably a century built FAL...I own one ,it's a great rifle...mine is built mostly from australian parts[as far I can determine]with what is known as a unibrow receiver[single feed ramp].I have heard mostly good things about them and mine has been a fantastic shooter so far....it will use inch or metric mag
best 400 bucks I ever spent!!!!! :sniper:

The parts used to make the rifle are most likely not of Canadian origin. The Canadian government is very strict about the release of the parts kist for these rifles.

You may have gotten the idea that it was a Candian rifle from the Century Arms made receiver.

Here's a link to some parts. Any inch-pattern mag will fit. I'd stay away from the straight 30-rounders, they have feeding problems. They make ones with a bend in it that corrects the feeding problem.
