View Full Version : 357 Sig...?
Fancy new chamberings don't much get my attention but this round from the beginning has fascinated me. I have a colt combat commander in 45ACP, but was thinking of selling it and buying two Springfield Armory XD's in 357 sig.
They are saying it is just a hair behind the 357 mag but in an auto package. How can you beat that?
Any comments?

That cartridge is pretty cool, BUT SELL THE COMMANDER!?
Better than a desert eagle .357....more rounds, lots less weight and size!! It is an awesome round! It has a very sharp "crack"report and feels a little harder(recoil wise)than the .40S&W(same gun different bbl).Oh yeah, you can use .40S&W with only a bbl change(they use the same mags and everything)!I hear more and more police depts are going to the .357SIG.
KEEP the Commander, and buy one XD.357!!

I was just joking, but seriously it has a weight and size advantage, but until sept. 13 it can only legally hold one more round.

My opinion on the 357Sig is that it's a bit of an answer seeking a question, kinda like the new 45GAP. A proper 40 S&W round will get the job done just as well with out the hassles of sharper recoil and more muzzle blast. And if the 40 ain't enough you already have the answer to that problem, a 45ACP. :D
I just find too many quirks with this round to warrant me getting one. High cost of ammo, limited supply of ammo( at least in my area). And last but not least, to me anyway, is that it's a bottleneck case. A major PITA to reload.
But hey, difffernt strokes for different folks. If you want one by all means get one and have a blast!
 Do it.I changed from Glock 22 & 27 to 31 & 33.BAD ASS BULLET!!!!! :sniper:
My token Glock is a 32 with an extra factory 23 barrel. Personal opinion is the 357S has to much muzzle blast and flash but it does what it is supposed to do, low to mid-range 357M performance in a semi-auto.

I'd go w/ a Sig Sauer P229 and do the 3 calibers in 1 (40 S&W, 357 Sig and 9mm Barsto barrel) but hang on to that Commander!!! You'll regret it and will want one down the line.
:2guns:
Well, I have one, though technically it is my department that owns it!
When it came time for a new weapon, they did a considerable amount of testing on calibers and weapons. The Glock was pretty much a given, I guess because of price and serviceability. It is my understanding that they tested a certain number of each caliber available, putting each through a number of different scenarios. The final decision was for the Glock 31. It is issued to patrol as well as undercover officers for duty and off carry. Though I was not involved in the original testing, from discussions with those who were, it seems that the factors were, ballistic power(velocity, muzzle energy), reliability, and penetration(glass, heavy fabric).
That being said, I do carry it and feel that it will do the job. I have always been one of those 45acp/1911 dinosaurs, and still am. But I think the 357 Sig will do the job for anyone who wants a reliable, defensive round. :D
I have a Sig P226 in that cal and it is very accurate, flat shooting and powerful. While the 40 seems to squirm in my hand the 357 makes a nice big boom and shoots straight. S&B makes a low cost brass cased round in that caliber.

The .357sig is one of the finest cartridges on the market, with ballistics very similar to the 10MM and penetration slightly better than the .357 Magnum with 125 GRHP.The sig cartridge ranks 8th on the FBI list of one shot to the torso stop rates. And is expected supercede the .40S&W 155GRHP as number one.The US Secret Service as well as the new air Marshal program just to name a few of the Federal Agency's to adopt the cartridge. Our Agency has carried the gun in the Sig Sauer P-229 for 7yrs and there have been no complaints with nearly 2000 guns in service. My personaly owned .357 sigs include a Sig P-229,a Sig Pro and a Glock 31.As a Certified LE Fire Arms Instructor I have seen many rounds down range, but I pick the .357sig as my choice for Duty and off Duty Carry.HTH
Best!! :usa:

Why not go for a 1911 in 38 Super, the ballistics are almost the same, but the cost sure isnt! lol..
